    Quick question:

Can you get the grant (free money) without taking the maintenance loan?

    Thanks

Yes, if you have parents who earn very little, and you can survive on £2900 per year as that's all you'll get in a grant. People on here will say "no, you can't cos if you don't need a loan you don't need a grant" - whilst this may be morally true if you are entitled to the grant you don't have to take the loan as well.

Yeah, if you're entitled to it normally you just have to say on the application that you want no loan. Just on a side note, the tuition fees loan is unconnected so you could get that without the maintenance loan.

But really the grant is, in theory, there to help if your parents cannot help you out financially. So by taking the grant and not the loan it defeats the purpose of the grant, as you are not getting any extra, you just do not pay it back (which is not the intention of the grant). So you probably can, although I do not think you should be able to personally.
