    hiya...
I have to get my car tracking done next week. Iv heard it costs around £20-£30... Is that about right?! Are the mechanics gonna try and tell me that I need other things done to my car as well whilst im there just cos im female!? Iv never been to a garage before (LOL) but I presume that they wont just change other bits on my car and then charge me for that?! I wont be waiting at the garage cos il be at work!!!

To my knowledge, unless vital to safety or illegal to leave the way it is, garages normally call you if they think you need anything else done and ask if you're happy for them to do it. If you don't have the money or think the car is fine, just say you don't want it done. They shouldn't change anything without your permission. Some places just try and make money out of you for things which don't really need changing.

Just go to a place that only does tracking and tyres! My local place will sort the tracking out for £20 and they don't do any other work other than changing tyres, so they can't upsell to me. They have pointed out problems in the past but then it's up to me if I get the work done right away somewhere else.

Tell them straight when you hand over the car that they are only doing the work you asked for, and any work undertaken on your car without authorisation will not be paid for. Any recommendations they make for subsequent repair work for observed faults shall not be undertaken by them until you have obtained a second opinion.

Got a full set of tyres for £150, and tracking for £15.. so i wasn't too unhappy. If they start pointing out stuff wrong with your car, or taking it apart to show you, just tell them you don't have the money at the moment, and you'll come back in a few weeks. It'll shut them up and make them happy. And simply don't turn up in a few weeks

(come give the job to me I'll offer it cheaper aha)

Dont bother wasting money for 'tracking' - Its useless. You need a full 4 wheel alignment for it to be worth doing (I.e. the front wheels adjusted in reference to the rear wheels, not to each other)

I usually pay £50 - £60 to get a basic 4 wheel toe adjustment. If you want to adjust camber etc it will cost a bit more.

Useful site for finding local places that use 'hunter' alignment equiptment, but there are other systems about that are just as good:
