    Sorry this is so long

I made the decision a while ago to take an art foundation year after A levels because art is really the only thing I'm good at and enjoy doing. I am aware most people stay at home for foundation years because I won't be eligible for student loans until I start a degree course.

I planned on moving out because my Dad agreed to pay for my accommodation (he lives overseas) and I pretty much already pay my own living costs through part time work. It's not just that I want to leave home because I dislike my family, but I have really been unhappy at home most of my childhood due to issues to do with domestic violence - I have suffered depression and ended up in hospital a few times because the stress made me severely underweight. The school knows about this and have advised me to move out, as have my doctors.

However, for one reason or another my Dad has now said I am being selfish in moving out because it's 'unnecessary' and he doesn't want to have to support me financially for an extra year of higher education. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do because I don't earn anywhere near enough to pay for rent on top of living costs and I really can't spend another year living here.

    Help?

When my friend did her Art Foundation course she wasn't eligible for a student loan but she moved out and survived by using her overdraft (because she was still eligible for a student bank account) and a bursary given to her by the university.

Art foundation isn't a foundation degree, it's a foundation diploma and technically a Further Education course. You can't get funding for it. The university might give you a bursary but otherwise you'll have to figure it all out yourself. Generally most people take them close to home so they don't have to move out.
