I love Freshers!

I have concluded that there is nothing funnier in the world than drunken Freshers wandering around Durham...

Scenario 1:Outside Hatfield

Loud singing of 'Who the **** are Hatfield College' whick eventually stops (thank god) only for a lone Fresher voice to ring out saying,

"Where exactly is Hatfield?"

Had me and my mates in stitches for hours

Scenario 2: Walking down the Bailey

6 male Freshers, I know not from which college, blatantly drunk beyond belief as they were zig-zagging across the road in a most impressive manner.

One Fresher loudly announces to another "But wait a minute guys, we don't even know where Pixies is?"

Other Fresher replies, "No mate, it's called Ricky's, we don't know where Ricky's is!"

From now on I intend to call the place Pixies....a much better name I think!!

Therefore I love Freshers and think we should immediately recruit even more and get them pissed just for the novelty value

Aidans Fresher:

I hate all these rules for formal, and I don't really hate Hatfield. You seem to be really nice!

Lekha: I can see your shared music on my computer, along with about twenty other random names.
Im in Stockton (stephenson college) and my freshers has been very hit and miss, some nights out have been ace (like the bop was good imo) but I am getting sick of the instance of the freshers reps to boss everyone around. I drink a lot normally anyway, but if you refuse to down your drinks, take shots etc...they get all annoyed, ie they dont let you enjoy a pint chatting to your new freinds, you have to be throwing up by 9pm.

I know they have to get everyone lively and up for it, but im just finding them intimidating, because they accuse you of being cowardly or dull if you dont do as they say.

Also I could do with some time to myself for a bit, but everytime I try theres a rep or senior resident hammering on doors, getting you to take part in this, do that etc

I dont know if people from other colleges are experiencing the same thing? (with the freshers reps) it also seems they are more out to enjoy themselves than organise the freshers.

Hmm that sounds wrong to me. Freshers' reps are there to help you settle in and feel comfortable not to force you to do something you don't want...

That's a real shame...but please don't be scared or intimidated by them. If you don't want to do something just say no-they'll get over it...

It sounds as if they are just a bit keen and maybe feeling a bit superior because they are more senior

The last couple of nights have been much better

I agree with you, I think the reps did feel a bit superior and stuff

Im not sure some of them appreciated that moving away, meeting new people etc is hard enough, without constantly being 'bothered' and asked to do things you dont want to do. Like if someone says 'no' to something I ask (in life in general) I say "fair enough" not humiliate them, or beg them to say yes.

But Durham in general has been ace! loved nearly all of it

Ugh... freshers week is too rowdy for my liking. Not enough on for the people who don't generally go out drinking and clubbing -_- Believe it or not, despite my first night antics, I am one of the quiet crowd  I'm sure those of you who've met me have noticed I'm not the chattiest person in the world  Haven't really met any people who'd I want to be bezzy-mates with, like. Everyone else seems to have bezzy-mates all ready :frown:

There are lots of people who don't like drinking and clubbing but you can't find them because they haven't gone out drinking and clubbing :p:. Seriously, the people in my corridor who are less into that sort of thing all congregate in one persons room and just stay there and chat 'n' that. Well, thats what I think they were doing.

Your corridor is clearly not as good as ours! Although you do have the entertainment provided by Joe the tea man. Can't believe Collingwood wouldn't let us in!

There are only like 4 people in the whole of the wood who I can go and strike up conversations with and that... but it doesnt bother me, because they are all pretty cool.

I realise that for now, at least, all the bezzy mates are at other unis/back home in Essex. Im trying to make friends obviously, to make do.. but Im not expecting to instantly become really into people here... Just gonna buckle down and get on, while forming some casual friendships... And if I have no one to live out with in future, ill come on here, and go with you guys to a house:smile:
