I don't know if you know, but Phil has recently had health problems, check this out....

    http://www.spinnermusic.co.uk/2010/0...-nerve-damage/

Phil has a hearing problem in one ear and also has nerve damage to his hands and cannot pick up his drum sticks or play drums any more. He is unsure whether he will return to full health and ever be able to play again. He was hoping to reunite with the original Peter Gabriel line-up of Genesis, but due to his health there are doubts. So Phil isn't off the hook either.

Phil has also been divorced 3 times and has had to fork out over 42 million pounds in payments to his ex wives.

Not saying the Manics didn't have problems either, just that poor old Phil has had many problems too!
I never knew that! As if he can't actually play the drums anymore, that's such a shame. :|

Awesome, thanks for posting these links, good selection of his hits there! Phil is a legend and has written some classics over the years!

Personally I really love 'In the air tonight' and 'Everyday' too.

Heh I like Genesis, particulaly what my German chums call Jossstick Genesis - the stuff while Steve was still in the band.

Phil solo - not so much tbh, the first record was the best but I got tired quickly after that.

Like his drumming a lot though - I'm no expert but he's got quite an easily recognisable technique, he did the drumming on Pete Gabriels 3rd album (pete didn't allow any cymbals on the record).
Phil's drumming is IMO quite clearly recognisable in this track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbwQ0Wy3ljQ ... also legend has it that this was the beginning of the gated drum sound used again by Phil on In The Air.

Heard The rest of Genesis (Tony & Mike) on the radio a few weeks back publicising the genesis box set. Phil wasn't taking part in the interviews or by the sound of it invloved in trawling the archives with the other 2, they sounded pretty pessamistic about any future reunion or work as a group. Guess the poor guy really is in a bad place these days.

Yes as you probably realise I wasn't picking all his most well known ones, just the ones that I happen to like the most.

His most well known ones include In the air tonight (a bit too sentimentally 80s for me I'm afraid), Groovy kind of love (a cover) and one that I should included: Two hearts. I admire some of his songs a lot but I couldn't say that I'm a huge fan though . That's probably a little unfair of me, partly due to how populist Collins is, but his range is probably better than Peter Gabriel (only like a handful of his but Gabriel's are more thematically interesting). I imagine that many Phil Collins fans also like Huey Lewis and the news because some songs sound similar.

Why is there this stigma about Phil Collins being seriously "uncool". He did some damn fine tunes back in the day and can pish all over any pretentious Arctic Monkeys nonsense.
