HI i am studying architecture at cardiff for 2011, i have my place from deffered entry.

I was wondering what accomodation i should get. I am thinking talybot south or court, probably court as its nicer.

are these close to the architecture dept and are they good socially?

If you want really social then you want Taly South, but if you a nice room and social then you want Court Court has parties but seems to be more sound proof so if you want a quiet night in then you're fine. South however is very loud - but then it is freshers' week!

Talybont is reeeeeeally far away from the architecture building - so i don't think location would make much difference in this case.

But I would recommend south, its really nice- people are much more friendlier than in court and you will be much closer to the big Tesco because trust me when i say you'll regret living in court for the food shopping you'll have to lug in the rain - (and it rains a lot in the diff)

Go for Colum Hall - not as crazy as Talybont South but more of a social life than Court. And closer than both.

Hi ! I also have my place for deferred entry at Cardiff Uni.
Do you know when we'll be able to apply for accommodation ?
I'll study Journalism and I think Journalism and Architecture are both in the Bute Building. I was thinking about going to Senghennydd Court since it's close to the Bute Building and not too expensive.

    I would say Colum hall!
yes i am biased, i live there.
But seriously, the social life is good, soo much closer to the uni than Taly, which believe me you will be glad about when you live here. The kitchens and facilities are a decent size too, flats of 8 and everyone seems to socialise with other flats within the hall.

I know everyone always says go with Taly but i do not regret choosing Colum one bit. From what ive seen in terms of flats ours don't seem any worse compared to Taly and the location is better.

oooo I have heard that Taly South is very similar to Colum although eveyone seems to go for Taly South. How long does it take to walk to heath campus from south and colum ?? Whats around Colum then..gym? or places to chill?

Location wise colum is half way between taly and the main uni building area so if you have friends there etc. you can still go to Taly but you are closer to everythign else. There is a gym at taly, but there is also one by the union, so that is close to Colum. Colum is nearer to the city centre, the main uni campus.

However, I don't think it really applies to you though because isn't allensbank hall or something like that the one they recommend for those on the heath campus? The heath campus is further out than the main campus.

hey does anyone know anything about the rowing club? or the student houses?

i'm torn between taly south/court, colum hall and the student houses & i think rowings going to be the deciding factor - i enjoy nights out as much as the next fresher but if it's 6am training i'll need some soundproofing!

My friend did Architecture and they advised her to live catered at Senghenydd Court claiming due to the intensity of the course she wouldn't have time to cook which was blatently a huge pile of horse**** but there you go...
