    Hi,

Can anyone outline the tasks involved for both, the amount of stress levels involved and the annual salary for both, etc.

    Thank you

dental technician is involved in the laboratory stages of making crowns, bridges, implants and dentures. Some can be clinically trained to actually make a denture as well i.e. they see the patient and treat them for a denture.

hygeniest cleans teeth, motivates patients and instructs patients on how to better look adter their teeth

therapist does what hygeniest does plus routine fillings and extractions on children I believe, under the prescription of a dentist.

I was on a CPD course last week and there was a clinical dental technician telling us about what he does. Seems like he loves his job and what not, but I couldn't help but think he was all about the money and not really about the patients like he was trying to pass off. Apparently clinical dental technicians can't have their own list number, so can only treat NHS patients using a dentists list number or something like that. So basically he wasn't interested in doing anything on the NHS.

OP, if you want to work with patients, go for therapy. If you don't, go for dental technician...

clinical dental technician doesn't need to see patients on prescription from a dentist, but they can't do private work unless they do. I think.

So the guy I saw was a clinical dental technician who ran his own practice and made private dentures for patients!

hmmm.......don't see how a clinical dental technician should be allowed to treatment plan someone for a denture without being qualified to treatment plan them for perio, fillings etc. they need to look at the whole picture!
