I have pretty much finished my 2011 application, I just need my personal statement checked and for my reference to be completed.

Is it just one person you ask for a reference, or is it a collection of references managed by 1 person i.e. collated together?

Also I am not sure if these 5th October changes mean I can request references from more than 1 person?

You can only enter one referee and it's customary that they write the whole reference, but some people do have their referees include quotes/short passages from other people, so you could do that.

You ask one person for a reference. However, it is up to that person how they decide to make the reference. If they are happy to they can ask other people for their opinion and this can be included in the final reference. However, the reference will still show as being from the one person and unless they decide to say something like "Bob's other teacher said that ..." one person will have been assumed to have written the whole thing.

Would you say its advisable to get as many people to contribute as possible or to just get your 'first choice' referee to do the entire reference? I just want to get it finished ASAP.

I applied externally and just had my former tutor do it. Never heard of someone having multiple referees.

Depends what you are applying for and where. See the link in my sig to the stickied thread at the top of the forum.

Hey, if I'm doing A levels, can I still ask my work experience supervisor to write my reference?
I'm doing A levels privately, does that mean my tutor has to write my reference?

Whoever your referee is, they must be able to comment on your academic abilities. Your work experience supervisor will not be as suitable a choice as your tutor, for that reason.
