It's not so much the blandness of English food, but the lack of nutrition. We tend to overcook everything in this country so that it almost resembles soup. Fish and chips whilst tasting great is full of fat and grease. We pour tinned peas over it, and our gravy is made with bisto granules. Extra salt to top it off. Two rounds of white bread with loads of fatty butter. Tastes great but have too many and you will need to exercise it off, or get fat.

We can't even make chili con carne without making it so bland its hardly worth eating.

So true, I was living with a bunch of international students last year and was put to shame when we started showing one another national dishes. As Brits we just don't seem to value food all that much, our favoured dishes are all foreign.
