I would like to get a reference from one teacher at my previous college, but since he was my only teacher there (I was doing AS and A2 with him) it would seem a bit odd to request a reference from the centre itself. Ideally, my reference would be written partly by this teacher and partly by a professor who was involved in my home-education. It would be a bit much to ask for a reference only from the college teacher, especially given that he didn't teach the subjects I'm applying for.

Is the alternative I've suggested not allowed or something?

I don't see how this is awkward? Just tell the centre that you want him specifically to write part of your reference, of which the other part will be written by a different teacher.

You cannot have two references so if you do this the teacher and the professor will need to discuss this. This may be difficult. Only one of the teachers will be named as writing the reference which means that they have to trust each other's comments. This is why usually you will only receive this kind of mixed reference when applying through a school and all the teachers work there.

You can ask your college to do this for you but I do not think that it will be successful.

Thanks, I suppose I'll just ask the college teacher to write the whole thing then.
