    Hi!

I'm thinking of applying for a Biology degree at the following universities with predicted grades, ABB:

    Warwick - ABB
    Lancaster - ABB
    Reading - ABC
    Leeds - BBB
    Liverpool Hope - 260 points

For GCSEs, I have a C in Maths and an A* in English Language. Will I be rejected at Warwick and Lancaster if they ask for a B in Maths? Especially if the competition is fierce this year?

    Thanks!

If you do not meet the essential requirements then yes it is quite likely that you will be rejected. If a B in maths GCSE is only regarded as "desirable" or similar then you may stand a chance. The best option would be for you to resit the qualification if you want to go there.

No it does not automatically mean you'll be rejected. If the course is competitive, what you may find is that you could be rejected on that basis alone.

If anything, you should contact them, OR apply elsewhere.

    Email them and ask.

If you contact them they will just explain that their policy is published. They may say "oooh, apply anyway and see". But they will not say "yes you will be accepted without it" as it is not in their best interest to do so. Therefore, emailing to ask is pointless.

For those unis with an A grade in their offer, is that in biology? ...Because the fact you have a C in biology at AS might ring some alarm bells...

Warwick want a grade B in Biology and they told me their GCSE requirements are English and Maths at grade C, so that sounds like a safe choice then. I might apply somewhere else instead of Lancaster because it might be a bit of a risk.
