    Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone else is in the same position as me atm?
I'm feeling so left out and it's really getting me down. I live 20mins from Swansea Uni and didn't want to spend £2500 on accommodation when I lived so close but now I wish I had because I haven't got to know anybody and haven't done anything at all for freshers
My courses start next week but I'm fed up of hearing about how much my other friends are all loving University life and I just feel really alone; feels like they've really got into their new lives and I'm just wasting the whole of Freshers.

I was like that when I started uni 2 years ago. The students who lived in halls were always hanging out and going for nights out and I felt like I'd always be a loner because they had already formed their gangs. Then I just started sitting next to people in lectures and talking in labs and made friends that way, then they just invite you out and you go

    Shoulda moved out.

You should be able to make friends on your course though, and in some societies. The first week doesn't really matter; you're there for 3 years.

P.S. Most people lie or exaggerate the awesomeness of Freshers.

    You'll be fine.

I made a post on my blog that might help a little bit (shameless promotion!).

You're in a much better position than some people, since you only live 20 minutes away, though. You can still join in with everything.

You'll have fun when you stop worrying.

I know how you feel, as I'm commuting in for this year as I can't afford it otherwise. Just join in as much as you can - just becasue you live at home doesn't mean you can't join a society or go out. It might just mean being a bit prepared and asking to crash on someones floor.

Thanks guys. I have joined some societies and there's a social on Thursday but I'm quite shy and for some reason feel a bit nervous in case they're all talking about how awesome their flats are, etc etc.
I will see what happens when I start the courses. Thanks for the replies
