Ours just went off at 8 this morning! Apparantly it was actually a full-scale drill as someone on my corridor knew about it but I wanted sleep this morning cos some prick thought it would be nice to converse in a rather loud manner right outside my room, so I have only had about four hours' sleep! Grrrrr and it's not just a school-bell, its a bloody siren/klaxon thing, all the smoke detectors double as alarms, and they are VERY loud!!! I feel sorry for people who went out last night and are hung over!! lol
Still, it wasn't as bad as the other day when the alarm was set off in three different places at once, concking out the system, and all of this at 3am!!! It's hard enough getting to sleep with the walls being soooo thin, but when it's interrupted by a fire alarm, sorry, the horn of the QE2, it makes me not a happy chappie
Which is what I am now...

Oh dear ol' Rutland....

You lot've had the most fire alarms out of all the halls so far! Been woken up far too many times by Rutland :P
Although I guess thats what happens when people get distracted from cooking n stuff by rutlanders who take it up the arse

Sorry

You can hear it all the way from Lincoln?

Ours went off at 3:30 this morning. The fire service came, there was nothing wrong but we were kept waiting an hour outside whilst they found that out. So we went back to sleep. 20 mins later it happens again. We wait outside again. It happened again this morning. And i had a 9 'o' clock start.

Last year the alarm went off 2 or 3 times in one night in the Union, due to a faulty detector or something like that, very annoying but some of the firemen are cute  Went off on saturday too during the Beach Party night, some people didn't half look cold!

Ours went off at 2.30 am the other day. I was not happy

Reply 26

ours are always going off
that said, no one goes outside we just tend to ignore it

Reply 27

It did go off again but late last night but we were still up so it wasn't that bad

We had one at 3am last year after some drunk person set it off. We had to line up outside in wintry November weather, most people in nightclothes. I had just got back from a night out though

Ours went off at 10 to 8 yesterday morning, probably a good thing because i had a lecture at 9 and would have slept through my alarm :p:

I just hope it doesnt happen on my days off.

Imagine that twice a week and you have my first year experiences...

Ours went off this morning momentarily....I was getting changed at the time!

One kind of advantage to where I was in my first year was that the area we had to go to was one of the hall car parks. Squish a few people in to the car, turn the radio on and wait.

When I was in halls it only went off once and that was a proper fire drill, we had a test every tuesday but you didn't have to go outside for it.

Believe me the fire service get very annoyed at having to come out all the time to students!

We still haven't had our proper middle of the night one (but it will happen by the end of next week apparently). The alarm went off one afternoon a couple of days after we arrived but the was down to someones poor attempt at cooking. We thought that was the proper one but no...
Better not be tonight.

Fire alarms in the middle of the night are just part of life at uni, especially if you live in halls.

You'll either learn to sleep through it, learn to have a laugh about it at 4am when you're knackered, or it'll piss you off for three years.

Really? Theres so little people in my block I doubt it will go off! Comforting to know I dont hear other buildings ones though,

Yeah our fire alarm goes off at 11am every Friday morning. Both Friday mornings in a row I've like just got to sleep around 5/6 am so the damn alarms disturb me from my sleep.

Plus, every room has a fire alarm, and its strategically placed right beside your bed. Good for real emergencies, bad for when your trying to sleep.

I wonder if my eardrums still function to a reasonable level.

That's because it was bloody cold! We were singing a rendition of Amarillo entitled ' Is this the way to Aberystwyth' to keep us in the mood :p: And we only got 10 extra minutes at the end even though we were outside for 20

Oh, I am living in Penbryn, and we had ANOTHER middle-of-the-night fire alarm this morning. Some idiot smashed the fire system box thingy on the wall at the entrance to block 5 (my block) and WE are going to get fined for it! , I had just got back from town as well and was rather drunk (idiots kept 2p-ing me, and I couldnt down some of the pints so down my neck goes a shot of Absenthe - it's horrible! :frown: ) and because the fire alarm went off, I lost sleep, so I slept right through my 7.30 alarm and missed my 9.00 lecture this morning!

Oh, and we have been told that the practice fire alarm at 8 the other morning was not fast enough, so they're doing another one.

Oh, the joys of a fire alarm............ Sod that!

(apologies if I sound a bit ranty)
