We get them all the time here... It's annoying as hell. Luckily, I've been out for every single one, aside from one the other day.

Thing is, they go off so much, people have started to ignore them. We got a letter from the management staff reminding us of the fact that we have to evacuate, and to make sure that we comply, they're going to have a drill and sweep the WHOLE BUILDING to make sure nobody's still inside.

That's going to take a hell of a long time, so I think I'll go to the pub when that one rears its ugly head.

eek everyone else's uni sounds worse than mine!

In our block we've only had 2 fire alarms.

Most other blocks here have had them going off at 2/3 in the morning.

I'm lucky

Grrrrr! We have another fire drill at 8 tomorrow morning cos apparantly the last one was poorly attended, they are going to fine us if we dont attend! Just as well i have a 10 oclock lecture! I'll get up at 7.30, have a shower, get dressed and stand outside two minutes before it rings!

How do they know who is there and who isn't!!!?? Do they take a register"!!!!??

glorious alarm this morning, with everyone in pjs. Fortunately it preceded my actual alarm by only a few minutes, 7:30, but it scuppered my plans to be first in the shower, as everyone then got up anyway.

Yes they have to to make sure nobody is still left in the building you wouldn't want to be in a burning building while everyone thinks you're outside. Oh, and if you don't attend the drills you get fined, at least thats the case at my uni.

Blimey. When we had a fire alarm the other day, we just walked around outsidr...no one took a register!

At my uni, you aren't necessarily going to be there when they do their fire drills because they don't tell you when they're going to be. We had one at 1/2 8 this morning and most people staggered out bleary eyed in their pyjamas only to find the porter at the bottom of the staircase saying 'OK as long as you can hear it thats fine, its raining out here so you don't need to come out, you can go back to your rooms'. Which was good  Our alarms are quite good, they don't go off other than for proper fires/fire drills. I only had to trek out twice in the whole of last year for fire alarms. They do test them every week though for 10 seconds at an advertised time and we don't have to go out then.

We have one compulsory drill every term where they take a register, so they know who has/hasn't attended. The rest of the time they don't bother with the register. The thing is, they never know who is/isn't in at a particular time anyway...

Well Our building has had one< but pparently I was out so ah well. But nice connaught over the way seems to be making a regularity o it - and seeing as my window looks over. I hear it all.. woo.

Reply 51

They take a register but you can just stay in your room and if anyone bothers to ask say went for a run or something. We also had one the other day at 6.30am and the alarm is like a siren going off!

Reply 52

It has just gone off again....we were outside for aages and it is freezing. They said the police are now involved because it keeps going off and we are all going to be interviewed!!! Grrrr. We went for a walk to town to get chips as we were bored!

Reply 53

We had our compulsory one this morning at 7  We were told it's be in the morning, but that took the mick. Worse thing was, they had a warden in each flat, so as the alarm went off, they started banging on our room doors.

I bought myself a nice piece of salmon from the cheap counter at the supermarket and was cooking it for dinner with peas and new potatoes when they decided to have a fire drill. By the time I was allowed back in the kitchen it was completely ruined. :frown:

We got an email yesterday saying that our fire alarm is now going to be next wednesday at 8am! Even that is allrite compared to other Aber halls, at Brynderw (or however you spell it) their drills are at 6am!

Oh and our drill this week was cancelled due to 'unforeseen circumstances' , probably the fact that it was raining at the planned time of the drill and that Block 2's alarm (Penbryn) went off due to somebody burning their sausages (again)
