Some people seem to think they go to uni to go out all the time, which is strange to me. They turn into these wild party animals and get pissed all the time. Whats so amazing about being pissed and acting like a prat all the time?
I even have a friend who claims he doesnt care about a degree, hes just going uni to party all the time. Seems very childish to me to be fair. Anyone else agree??

I disagree. I think the sole purpose of university is to get pissed all the time. Going out is important, but getting pissed is the primary goal. Why can't you just be cool like everyone else?

    'Cos it is.

Degree's are ten a penny nowadays, everyone has one, so who cares how you do?

I'm a sociable person, I love to go out and get drunk with my friends.. I went to Leeds uni last year and I messed it all up because I was unhappy so went out too much.. I thought it was what the "uni" life was all about. I'm now back living at home with my parents and repeated first year (same course) at the uni near my home.

I dont go out as much and i feel a lot happier, i go out on a Saturday night when my uni works done and my lifes in a much better place!

I think that people who "dont care" about their degrees aren't in the right place at the minute, they obviously didnt know what to do with their life so just decided to go to uni to get pissed..

When you've been at Uni forever (like I have) going out on the lash night after night after night quickly loses its appeal. Hell, most freshers I know were sick of it by about November.

Going out with your friends every now and again and having a good time is cool. Continually ending up behaving inappropriately and barely able to walk? Not cool at all.

I agree. The whole point of University is to work hard and get a half decent degree. Each to their own, but I don't see the point in going out every night and getting hammered, just seems like a waste of life.

    Because it's the "done thing".

Of course not everyone does it, just that the people that do tend to be the loudest so you hear about it more.

In any case, it seems like a very expensive way to just go out and get smashed every night. If I wanted to do that I could've stayed home and gone out with my friends for a fraction of the price.

I agree. I'd hate to lose out on a place on a course to some pisshead who isn't even gonna get the degree or try to work for it. Yeah uni's good for going out and meeting people, but i think it's important to actually work too.

These people either fail the first year and get kicked out or continue on and get a crappy grade (they call a 2ii a drinking man's degree for a reason). Either way it's one less competitor on an already overcrowded graduate job market, so . . . win.

While I can see where everyone else in this thread is coming from I do agree with you. I think the main problem is a lot of people don't necessarily go to university to study. They go there more for career prospects and to have a good time and who can blame them? Ok, you go there, you study but then what? You can't study every waking hour no matter what you say, it gets boring and exhausting. So you need to chill, while you may be content with a nice movie and chatting with your mates other people prefer to get pissed. My ex says she gets pissed because it helps her lose her inhibitions but my question is why do you need alcohol to lose your inhibitions? I don't.

It's immature but what are you going to do? Just don't make the mistakes other people make. It also depends on what you're into; some people enjoy being pissed though for the life of me I can't understand why, I don't mind a couple of pints but after that the 'novelty' wears off and I'll switch to coke

    Then have some fun ffs.
You don't need to go out, get drunk and make a fool out of yourself to have fun, how pathetic.

I think going out and socialising is important as well as getting a degree out of it :dontknow:.

because it's the last time you'll get to have fun regularly and let loose before you enter the world of work (unless you fail your degree miserably).

I mean you're away from parents and have all your financial worries covered generally. you're gonna be hard pressed to come across another opportunity like this.

I'm largely here to have fun and go out. I don't need a degree for my future career, so if uni wasn't as fun as it was, I wouldn't have come.
