Heya everyone! I'm gonna be starting an Adult Nursing course in Jan (2014) and obviously with it not being at the start of the academic year we won't be in with all the Freshers stuff... just wondered if there'll be any events for new nursing students???? xx
IIRC in previous years they have had a second fresher's fair after xmas for new students -it's smaller than the original but has some helpful bits and bobs. And if you're in halls hopefully your flatmates will already have collected many dominos vouchers!!!

There will also be the usual club nights which you can use for going out to socialise at the start. You can join clubs and societies at any point during the year as well.

I would also imagine that the Nurses will organise some kind of event or social as well. Most departments have little mixers for students as well where you can meet people on your course over canapes

    Hiiiiiiiiya,
Thanks so much for your reply! Ahhh that's brill! Felt a bit stupid asking but was just worried we're going to miss out on so much stuff and chances to meet people! ;-)... but your message really reassured me. Yeh hoping I'll get on campus but panicing a lil bit about accommodation really as we're not guaranteed a place on campus and we won't know anything til november and all the student houses are from now ;-( so fingers and toes crossed lol. So excited to just get there now! xxx

Looking forward to freshers week regarding meeting new people and things but the idea of drinking and getting smashed was never and never will be my thing. Am I the only person not into the whole party scene?!

Hi, I'm not really into the party scene so you're not alone! I'm looking forward to starting but not the drinking as well!

From my reading and research UEA is a great university however it is so underrated. If I ever talk about it. I get a confused and clueless expression followed by questions about where it is and if its any good.

Its not in the Russell Group, it's entry requirements aren't that high, and it lurks in the 20s of the league table. I think it's a good university but others may judge it by these things

I genuinely used to think UEA, alongside UEFA, was just another football-related thing.

Some courses require A*AA so I don't know about that.

League tables aren't the same as public opinion, there are some uni's in the 30s that people would think are better

My friend told me yesterday he always confuses it with the United Arab Emirates. Probably because it's considered "Out of the way", so it doesn't get as much attention as some other places?

It's really good for my course and only AAB.
I just don't really want to go there because it's 'not the most attractive' of universities (ie. buildings and stuff...)

I agree to a point, but I'd argue a large percentage of public opinion is based on the league tables. The main reason why UEA is probably overlooked is because it's not a RG uni.

The people most actively following league tables are probably prospective and current students and their parents. Will you still be checking league tables in 5 years when you're long done with your studies and London Met has moved into the top 10?

It's a very research intensive university. I disagree with that I think the entry requirements are the same as many RG universities.

personally i think its largely to do with the location- surprisingly few people have heard of Norwich and its not as well connected as other parts of the UK
