They're completely separate universities.

Totally separate. Solent is right in the city centre while UoS is a few miles away at Highfield (mainly).

I'd also be sure not to confuse them as in terms of rankings, ST ranks Soton at 12 and Solent as 122 (of 122), so they're also very different calibres of Uni

Completely different! UoS is the "traditional/proper" Uni whereas Solent was (I think 3) different institutes in the city that merged under University status in 2005. Solent isn't as strong but still is very good in its own way and offers courses that Southampton doesn't, you can't really compare the two.

yeah well id rather be at solent then a **** mate

are these two universities "University of Southampton" & "Southampton Solent University" the same , or these are totally separated universities? , do they have shared teachers, students , buildings , etc.?

Please don't group Southampton students in with Solent. Its really degrading for us...

You feel as is you need to defend something then?? Considering the following posts as well. :eviltongue:

Not that I am actually saying anything about Solent being a bad Uni in the first place. :yep:

Wow, very compelling argument there.

In terms of traditional Uni Courses then UoS is much better. If you want something more vocational or just an easy ride then go to Solent (There was a BBC report a couple of years ago showing Solent passing students because it was easier and looked better even though the students ability didn't warrant a pass)

In terms of some vocations there are some opportunities at UoS through the Student Union (Cinema, nightclub, news paper, tv station, radio station, film making). And people have gone on from those SU societies into real careers.

Haha this thread had me in pieces. The Boney King of Nowhere does make a valid point - those that aren't at Southampton Solent are generally "kunts" (I'm not sure if he thinks it's spelled like that or if it's just a tactical spelling error to avoid the auto-censor, probably the former considering his uni). I wonder if, once TBKoN 'graduates' and leaves Solent, he will automatically be rendered a "kunt" like the rest of us...

The above comments pretty much sum up everything you need to know about the 'rivalry'

look m8 u fink your better then me but u aint, your just a tipical southampton kunt..i'm studying media and its an intense course id like to see u do it..rather be at solent then a posh knobhead

You're actually at southampton aren't you Boney? You aren't doing much for Solent's rep.

I can't be bothered with the rivalry. They offer different things for the most part so aren't really comparable. Southampton has fewer weaker departments than Solent, but Solent has a decent rep for some niche things. And even if it doesn't, it doesn't impact on me whether people go there or not.

Intense and 67th in the UK. Wow. Must be hard. If you managed to come The University of Southampton its second. We can see why you're at Solent though, don't worry

I'm relatively sure Boney is some form of troll.

They are generally speaking of different abilities but also the courses offered differ. I looked at Southampton University due to the location but they did not do the course I required so I've applied to Solent. It's whatever suits you best. Either way, you're in University. That's an achievement. No good asking on this forum, you just get a load of ***** slating the opposed University.
