Oh my word, thats terrible! What a shame and a waste of a young life, just in the wrong place at the wrong time...

we all need to look after each other if we're out of a night time, and know our limits when it comes to alcohol...

But that just sounds like a freak accident and I'm sure no-one could fore-see it happening, though I understand the presence of huge amounts of alcohol contributed greatly to the incident actually happening. Its a real shame. :frown:
We can all learn a lesson from this: Don't drink and climb stairs.

You might spill your drink.

It just goes to show how dangerous alcohol abuse can be, not only on your general health, but also in the consequences of your intoxicated actions. :frown: I wish people in this country were more aware of the dangers of alcohol like they are in most other countries.

Rude and careless, but funny.
how sad, I am thankful with all the careless drinking around my campus that there are almost no accidents even though a lot of people drink!
That's a little scary.

Last night I was drunk and hanging out the window.I could have so easily fallen

Drunk people seem to have some natural instinct to avoid death or serious injury, whilst coming very bloody close on occasions. My friend staggered onto a main road and got run over... lost his shoe and had some blood in his mouth, but still managed to make it to the pub.

Oh my days, get some perspective - one person died. (Yes i know there are thousands more, i'm not a ******)

What about the African children, one of which will die every few seconds?

It's one drunk bloke for christ sake.

It could easily have happened to a sober person tripping and falling on the stairs. Last year somebody died in Aber after falling out of a 3rd floor window on to railings, again after drink. If you feel you are getting towards your limit, stop.
thats scary

but if i drink i tend to drink with my housemates and friends and we always look out for each other. you got to be very careful and not overdo it. tis very sad

also try not to get drunk with people you dont really know, i mistakenly did that and ended up in a bad situation that could easily have been much worse :frown:

Not quite the point. The aim, I think, of this thread was to say: "Hey, do you know how not to die? Don't drink too much!"
I suppose you're saying, don't drink too much or be African? I don't think the point was to mourn over a dead drunk guy, it was as a warning.

tell me about it, I burn my hands on a lamb buhna cos of my lame delayed reactions. stupid alcohol. love it though.

 Touche.

Bit of a strange thread though, you'd have to be a bit naive not to think there are risks when drinking.
Ok fair enough I am just a bore

hardly. i think that youve raised a really important point, cos to be fair, most of us do abuse alcohol, i know for a fact that im always getting falling over drunk and ive scared loads of ppl wi the number of knocks to the head that i end up taking when ive had too much,
would i be right in assuming that your point wi this post is that ok yea the booze hasnt killed you yet, but it still could?
Naturally, I am sure it was a 'freak' accident and could be equally caused by a uncanny trip. It just really surprised me to hear it had happen close to home.

AU night is a major intoxication fair at our university. I personally would struggle to keep up with the drink, any way

Luckily were all not stupid enough to get of our faces then fall down some stairs. At least I hope

I guess you'll kill me for this, but in my opinion drinking is more of an issue in the UK than I have experienced in Germany. Of course lots of people get terribly drunk here as well and more and more very young people (14, 15 years) end up in hospital intoxicated.
But I've always had the feeling that alcohol and lots of it as it were, plays a very important part in socializing in the UK.
Do you think fast and heavy drinking may have something to do with the restrictions there are? (Alkohol only served up to a certain time..) Or is it just part of "a culture"?
all my French and German friends have told me this on a constant basis.
