School: non-selective state 11-18
Area of Country: Westcountry
Size of year- group: 60ish
Oxbridge Applicants: Oxford - 0, Cambridge - 1 (me!), Total - 1
Number of successes: Oxford - 0, Cambridge - 1 (me - last year), Total - 1
Dodgy deals going on: None. No-one from my school had ever applied to Oxbridge before so it was all an uphill struggle e.g. didn't get any help with my application, didn't have practise interviews etc.

School: non selective state 16-18
Area: Manchester
Size of Year: 750 ish
Oxbridge applicants: Oxford - 20 Cambridge- 8
Number successful: Oxford - 8 Cambridge - 2 (another 2 were pooled and rejected)
Dodgy Deals going on: Not really, tho there is a huge bias in the college towards Oxford (though I'm glad I got an offer from Cam, Oxford wasn't for me!).

My school is a Church of England state school. This year we had 7 Cambridge applicants including myself. One was rejected before interview, three afterwards (including myself). One got accepted straightaway and two got pooled. Of the pooled, one drowned and the other got an offer. So two successes out of seven. The year above also managed two, but this year saw the most ever Oxbridge applicants in my school.

Which illustrious state grammar is this one in Kent then? And is it offers or acceptances?
The thing about state schools who are successful in students accepted in Oxbridge is that, over many years, they have built up connections with various colleges and know how to 'work the system'. It does not confirm that they have an intellectual 'elite'.
Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys in Canterbury, not sure how many people from the girls' sister school got places though.

The figure of ten is offers, the guy who turned them down for Imp would have made his cam offer too, but one missed grades... so 8 are actually studying now.

Not sure if we're either intellectually 'elite' or good at working the system, I suspect neither. It's just that this is the best state grammar in canterbury, so tends to have the top few 'elite' people in, even though they take the top 25% at 11.

Alaric.

I've found it quite interesting picking up on how many *successes* there are in a school. Just wonder if people would do a little show and tell about your establishment, for this year specifically or maybe in general.

School: unselective state 11-18
Area of Country: SE England
Size of year- group: about 150
Oxbridge Applicants: Oxford - 7, Cambridge - 4, Total - 11
Number of successes: Oxford - 5, Cambridge - 3, Total - 8
Dodgy deals going on: None whatsoever because we are just a random dirt-poor average anonymous state-school
In my year of application but I'd guess figurea are around the same now:
School: sixth form college
Area of Country: E England
Size of year- group: about 750
Oxbridge Applicants: Oxford - 70+, Cambridge - 40+, Total - 11
Number of successes: Oxford - 25, Cambridge - 20, Total - 45 ish
Dodgy deals going on: None but in fact the quality of the people who didn't get in makes me wonder if there is the opposite going on.

School: Mixed private day & boarding; 11-18
Area of Country: West Midlands
Size of year- group: ~60
Oxbridge Applicants: Oxford - 0, Cambridge - 2, Total - 2
Number of successes: Oxford - 0, Cambridge - 1 (me!), Total - 1
Dodgy deals going on: None that I am aware of. I shall be upset if there are. Yes, it was a private school but our Oxbridge acceptance rate is pitiful, and we definitely do not have any connections in high places!

School: Independant (non-selective)
Area of Country: South East
Size of Year: about 70
Oxbridge Applicants: 5 - Oxford and 8 to Cambridge
Number of successes: 0 - Oxford and 2 - Cam (+ me still in pool but v. unlikely)

Dodgy deals going on: Yeah but it's a negative one. A guy got a choral scholarship to King's. He is very very clever and should have got in even without the scholarship. He was rejected - but apparently King's is very left-wing and we are an independent school.
One of ours got a choral scholarship to King's, and we're an independent school...

Yeah - It is a joint sixth form between four schools (the whole lot is called La Swap) each school has about 280 sixthformers between two years so there are about 560 in all.
