Did you hear they've found a vaccine for cervical cancer?? Sorry I found out about this yesterday I was sooo amazed. Its probably somewhere else in the forum but I cant be bothered to find it.

No need to ever have a smear test again apparently. How amazing.

You 100% still have to have smear tests even if you get vaccinated. The vaccination is for HPV which is a virus that increases your chances of getting cervical cancer, rather than a vaccine for cervical cancer itself. You can get cervical cancer even if you have never had HPV and even if you get vaccinated against HPV you can have already exposed to the virus before your vaccination, meaning that you are still at an increased risk of getting cervical cancer. Also the vaccine only protect you from certain strains of HPV. This one protects against HPV 16 and HPV 18, but not strains responsible for the other 30% of cervical cancers. So although the vaccine lowers your risk IF you are vaccinated before being exposed to HPV but it does not mean you can stop having smears :frown:

dont have one and you just might! They really dont sound THAT bad! Ok, its embarrassing, but if you plan to have babbies then someone will inevitably see you down there anyway! Its over in minutes! Its not exactly a huge big in depth vaginal exam!

You don't need one until you're 25 so don't worry about that. More important things are stuff like contraception etc.

yea well we're going into tescos 2moro to get some condoms. is there some that work better than others or what?

Reply 14

Make sure you get ones with a kite mark, which means they've been tested. But basically the big brands e.g. Durex should be okay.

I don't think you are allowed to sell condoms if they aren't kitemarked...
