My family (parents and myself) lived comfortably for years on about £20-25k. If I was earning £30k/annum, I'd be pretty damn happy with it.

This. If I was earning alone what one of my parents make (11k) then I'd be over the moon-no need to provide for 3 kids but I guess rent would suck the same ammount of money out as 3 kids lol.

For someone whos just graduated out of uni

10k - poor
15k - meh
20k - alright
25k - good
30k - excellent
35k+ - amazing

People claiming that 100k+ is decent obviously have their heads stuck up in the clouds where having 2 cars, top notch computers, seasonly holidays and large mortgage-paid houses are mandatory.

I didn't say £100,000+ is 'decent', but those things are very normal. And you don't need to have £100,000 to have them, so I don't get your point. :dontknow:

£40,000 but I want to be earning far more than that

Reply 64

Im gonna be satisfied with my life when im earning over £40,000 p.a.

Anything that allows you to rent/own a decent house/flat, have a nice car, pay bills. So in my opinion about £30k. I'd be happy if I'm earning more than £50k by 30.

Reply 66

£45k will be sufficient for me

Reply 67

£45k + . 45k would allow you to have some spare cash, but not much, really you want 65k +.

for what i had to go through in university (the work, not the rape), i wouldn't be happy with a starting salary less than £30,000 a year. when i'm in my 30s, i'd like to earn at least £60,000 a year. when i've got a family and the bastard kids are getting older (15 and ****), i'd like at least £95,000 a year.

lol its not about salary, its about mentality.

e.g. 70k salary, is that good or bad?...is it better than a 40k salary?...it always depends.

if you work 50-60 hours a week for a 70k salary, and its mentaly demanding, stressfull...is it really worth it?...

my cousin, who has a job at a local company is on about £45k ish, he is a senior manager so he gets loads of holidays and other benefits. he can easily switch to a higher position at a bigger branch about 30 miles from his house, and get double the salary, but it wont be worth it for him because it means he spends less time with his wife and kids.

so it all depends. thats why people say teaching is an excellent job, you teach what you already know inside out (or should since you done a degree on the subject), get plenty of holidays and is less stressful than other jobs (e.g. deadlines and stuff) - but teachers salaries are not the best.

Six figures.
Anything above 1,000,000 is gravy

That's seven figures, surely?

Yeah i know

I meant i'd be happy with six figures
Not bothered about anything 1,000,000+ though, yeah i'll put up with it, but by that point it'll just be gravy and money will probably cease to act as an incentive for me.

Reply 72

I would be happy on anything over 45K a year...as that would pay for a decent house, family, bills etc. and allow me to live comfortably and go on holiday once a year

<50k

Woa, you guys are nuts... but depends on sector/where you live/level of experience. I'd say anything 10k+ is on the right track. 20 k and upwards is good, but this is just me in my experience!

No one realistically can live off 10K!

Reply 75

£ 1 million is OK I suppose but to live comfortably you need AT LEAST £2 million p.a.

well som1 earning 10k would probably get quite alot of benifits from the government, so they probably would live of 10k (e.g. low or free rent, discounted council tax etc)...

Reply 77

£25k for some one who is single and has no one else to look after...
£35k for some one with two kids and living with a partner earing most probs the same.

Reply 78

40K at the minimum. 60k is good

Reply 79

After doing a degree, id say £30000 a year is not bad, although getting over £50000 a year is always good.
