Eating...

I put on quite a bit of weight over the summer - I'm about 5"4, and used to weigh 8.5 stone - now I'm nearly 9.5st. Since starting back at school, I've told myself to lose a bit of weight - I wouldn't say I'm overweight, but just to make myself feel a bit more comfortable. for exercise, i walk to and from school each day, which is 20 mins either way, and I also play netball twice a week. Thing is, I'm still eating quite a lot - normally have fruit for lunch as I'm not hungry at school, but when I get home I'm constantly eating! I don't eat badly, ie. no crisps, chocolate etc - but I can't stop eating! Normally just eat out of something to do while watching TV or reading paper - whatever. Anyone got any advice as how to curb this bad habit?

Try and prevent yourself from doing this, you are snacking, if you can stop for 3 days your body falls out of the rhythum, drink a lot of water this should help you stop being huingry, also preoccupie yourself, go out with your friends,do homework, go for a walk. I used to snack but i found i only do when im bored, i try not to become bored. Also your weight is fine for your height
chew chewing gum it keeps ur mouth busy and mind off it at the same time, i was sort of in the same situation a while back. hope this helps x

Do u mean if u can stop snacking for 3 days?
Eat tuna fish- it's mostly protein and takes longer to digest than fat and carbohydrate, so you won't be hungry for ages- one small can is less than 100 calories i think and you can't move after you've eaten it!

I agree, tuna is great. It's healthy, hardly any fat, no sugar. I sometimes have it for breakfast and lunch.

If you can kick the habit of snacking for three days, your body gets used to it. Someone I know had to eat small rations in the army/raf/something like that and he said after three days he stopped feeling hungry.

Every time you want to eat think, am i really hungry? If your starving eat something if your not really hungry drink something.

Exercise, even if it's just walking around everywhere, is a godsend for losing weight. Two years ago, I weighed almost 16stone, due to rather excessive eating of 'comfort foods' because of various personal problems I'd suffered.
In the past two years, I'll openly admit that I have not cut down on my eating, however, when I got home from university in May, I weighed myself and I was under 13 stone. My weekly routine while at university last year involved walking a mile to and from the nearest supermarket a few times a week, and running around like a headless chicken on a lacrosse field three times a week. If I'd ever bothered going to my classes as well, I would have added about 5 miles a day to that total, no joke.

Dieting just isn't for me, but the exercise seems to be good enough

is this thing about neg-cals true?
If you find yourself needing to eat all the time then you're probably not drinking enough. As others have said, make sure you drink at least 2 litres of water a day and if you still find yourself snacking - have healthy snacks.
yeah, supposedly if you drink some water rather than eating and then wait for about 10 mins you often stop feeling hungry because you were in fact thirsty...
whoops - just ate entire jar of nuttella off spoon in about 1 hr
wouldnt be so bad if i hadnt done the same thing on sunday

i think i have a problem

I usualy tend to eat more when I stay home and I'm bored .You must exercise ,but don't do boring exercise for physical effort's sake ;find some sport or outdoor activity that you like and do that .
Maybe you could chose 2 days every week (or more if in a hurry) to eat only vegetables(good food can be made only out of plants!)

Eating an entire jar of Nutella 3 times in as many days? Well, it's probably still better than the average student's diet :p:
To be honest, I WOULD tell you that you have a problem, but knowing what I'm like, I'd probably do the same thing if I had the opportunity. Instead, I go through 3 tubs of Pringles while watching a film  At least you can be happy that your problem's cheaper than mine
