freshers cold

hello boys and girls

so I am new to unviersity and having spend a good few hours in the disease chamber (aka lecture theatre) have got myself a cold. I don't care about the blocked nose or coughing too much, just my left ear is blocked and I can opnly hear bass with it.

Any good suggestions to get rid of this? Or ways to reduce it? Cos its making feel pretty knocked out at the moment, and is really not comfortable, but ive never had it before.

cheers for any help

I had that when i had a cold once, i dont think anything can get rid of it, as its all conected with the cold. leave it a week or so if it has not gone see your GP, mine took a week to go and im fine now!

Sudafed, and lots of it. It's a decongestant so will help to unblock your ear - it worked well for me.

I'm in my 3rd week of Fresher's Flu....having been at uni for 4 weeks now.

its not nice is it. theres someone coughing on average every 10 seconds in the theatres which is a bit excessive... almost as if theyre playing a joke, but they actually arent.

sudafed. ill try that tomorrow

thanks

not sure bout the ear thingy, but I am on the Lemsip's one in the morning, one in the evening!
Everyone in my house has had freshers flu! it's not great, but part of going to uni i guess!
hope you feel better soon!

Lemsips rock for colds and flu, they always sort me out. Although they won't cure it, one of those every 4 hours will certainly make it more bearable.

bloody freshers' flu. was coughing so much this morning that i was actually sick, twice. then had to go off to an old english lecture within minutes. lovely.

oh freshers flu is part of the fun at uni

year one -- chronic cough for 4 months
year two -- chronic cough for about 2 months, recurred after xmas for about another 3 months
year three -- chronic cough for about 3 weeks, fearsomely snotty nose

i'm becoming immune :biggrin::biggrin:

and i thought my immune system was bad. last year i had a cold every month for 7 months, it sucked. i went to my gp but she said it was stress. which stressed me out even more lol. i was at uni for less then 1 week before i came down with freshers cold (doesnt sound as glamorous as freshers flu) now everyone has it, or so it seems
edit: oh yeah and i always get a blocked ear cos i had glue ear as a kid. eardrops or olive oil warmed up, put it in your ear and put some cotton wool on top, feels nice. sudafed is good as well.

ive only just started to recover from my latest bout of freshers flu. its been a total nightmare. its well annoying when you cant stop coughing i the middle of a lecture and you have to leave to get a drink, or worse still when your nose starts runing real bad and you dont have enough tissue to last the duration of the lecture.
and then being up all night coughing an getting no sleep, thats even worse

tell ya what cured mine tho, after 2 weeks when even chicken soup wouldnt work...

a bowl of porridge and whiskey toddies, and paracetamol.

I had pretty bad freshers flu within the frst 5 days, I felt so ill I just stayed in my room all day, and missed one of the best days apparently :|. Next day I recovered from that, then the day after got this cough that has stayed with me right till now, and in the past 4 days has been accompanied by a pretty heavy cold :frown:. Still everyone seems to have something lol

I thought i was in the all clear. Ive been at uni for 3 weeks. But woke up this morning and I have the flu :frown:

i'm trying to think of the most exotic cocktail remedy i could make. i've been taking huge vitamin c doses every morning, but i reckon i need some red wine, opium, honey and tomato to have a realistic chance of curing it.

Ah, fresher's flu - the bane of all students...lucky me, I avoided it last year and haven't had it yet this year. Well, I'm sure it's just a matter of time before I get it as well - I bet I'll get it in my last year, knowing my luck.

put some vick in a bowl of warm water and inhale the vapour

Reply 17

Well, I'm not a fresher, but omg I have the worst cold. I can't hear and I can't breathe and it's so horrible :frown:

I've been taking these er, lemsip pill things. V good!

I have that ear thing, have had it for a few days.

It really hurts when I yawn now, for some reason. I got some earex but that doesnt seem to work.
