The urine would start to back up from the bladder to the ureters and kidneys, which could cause severe kidney damage if held TOO long (but nothing would actually rupture); or you'd wet yourself.

I think it's called reflux, where the urine starts going back into the kidneys? Not good.

12 hours is nothing, it's pretty much how I am. I do have an iron bladder though. I've gone without a pee for 24 hours and that was quite easy.

It can be one of the causes of cystitis, because bacteria is held in the bladder for too long and can infect it.

Yes, urine is a waste product - over time it becomes toxic and if not released your body will re-absorb it and cause serious damage, at worst DEATH. Recently a woman died for similar reasons, for a Wii competition which contestants had to hold in their wee.

She didn't die from toxic waste building up, she died because she drank too much water and osmosis killed her.

OP: If you do this as a one-off, nothing bad will come of it (I did this during Duke of Edinburgh - I had no intention of urinating in a ******* bush). Just don't do this regularly.
