It won't seem to accept my personal statement. Keep getting the following error message:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression ''I have always been fascinated by my mathematical studies and, having a flair for the subject, there was never any doubt that I would choose mathematics as a degree. It is a pivotal subject on which so many others depend (such as physics and chem'.

/uni/bio/editps.asp, line 70
Sorry about that meepmeep, do you think you could PM me the statement so I can have a quick look through it and see what might be wrong.

Thanks

Tom

it looks like its quotes, or something like that.

actually, ive noticed that the parentheses aren't closed, which could mean you have some open parentheses somewhere in your code which haven't been closed.

I thinkit is quotes - I've just realised there is no error checking or input validation code on that page at all - people could post porn in their personal statement!

Ok just a little update - I have fixed most of the bugs mentioned and made it possible to select universities other than the most popular 50. This shouldn't really affect anyone adding their profile apart from amazingtrade and dani but if you haven't added yours please feel free to.

It is now possible to add your personal statment as well, this feature will be made better in the near future along with lots of other stuff.

Thanks to elpaw, amazingtrade, Lucy, Dani, Dazbradbury, Alaric, Ben.S. and meepmeep for catching the bugs and to everyone else who added their profile expecially Nylex, Jools, MadNatSci and Soulfish for showing a paticular interest.

Hey,

Just wanted to bump this up a little, and also ask why you can't edit your user "details" I asume that means the male/female info etc..

But your website is looking good.

Worked it out, also got your PM just after I worked it out. Just out of interest are the entries stored in the drop down menu stored in a database? if so it must have been pretty hard to do.

The user details were actually stored in another database for something else and I had forgotten about them I will get up some way to edit them in the near future.

The universities are stored in a table containing an id, long name, short name and a boolean value saying whether they are in the top 50 or not.

It wasn't that hard to actually code, the hardest part was thinking up a way to organise it all properly.
