My boyfriend said if I take my PhD (which I fully intend to... when I can afford to!) he's going to take one JUST BECAUSE if I am going to be 'Doctor', he wants to be, as well.

Childish.

On the marriage note, this is probably stated somewhere else, but which college would you be getting married in? I just want to be able to picture the scene :p:

Congrats

How come your girlfriend's letting you pick the first name? Usually the privilege of picking the name goes to the one who has to force the namee our of their body. This is definitely the rule I'll be enforcing!

Thanks guys.

I am not sure to be honest; my mother picked my name too. I think it is partly to do with the fact that I was not at first too pleased about the pregnancy. Nevertheless, she has said that I am not allowed to call it a name of a previous girlfriend or anyone I have ever fancied (it is 98% a girl, apparently)!!!

I thought Aristotle Armstrong had a nice ring to it but she did not agree!

That would rule out almost any girls name I can think of for me :o: Also, wouldn't you want to give your daughter the name of someone intelligent, pretty and generally quite lovely, in the (slight silly, I admit) hope it might rub off? I'd want to give any future daughter the name of someone I hope they might be a bit like, and since giving them their mother's name would be a bit strange, that's likely to mean a girl I fancied at some point.

Got my provisional MA results today. It looks like I'm graduating with a Merit. Oh well. I can't believe I was 1% away from a distinction on my dissertation and two average marks on my essays brought everything down. But then again I did have to look after a baby full time during the MA which didn't help matters.

I should say, my :yy: is to getting a merit while looking after a baby, not to missing out on a distinction - well done!

Well done on the Merit though! I'd be absolutely delighted if I got one

Sucks that it was so close though :frown: Can you get a review?

As much as I'm pro the student protest, damaging property et al doesn't exactly win any favours with either the government or the general public.

Don't know what went on but I'm assuming the main culprits were those people who always turn up at any protest and cause trouble zzz who else would turn up with a balacava and a cricket bat???

I think some of the violent lot were protesting students, not all though. I only saw the snippets from News 24 whilst in the hospital this afternoon.

Speaking as somebody who did a course on the media I'd be sceptical about them reporting on that accurately. They notoriously frame protests in as pejorative and threatening a way as they can possibly eke out from their material. It would probably be quite difficult to identify a student from any other young person with suitably trendy casual clothes.

I can imagine.
I'll have to see. I think my very charismatic family might be a bit alienated by a high anglican wedding service, but it would be tempting to opt into that if it meant being able to marry in my college and afford it :p:
Aha! I've been trying to remember that term for months (not continuously). Thank you

To be more specific about this one thing I know about, the cost of getting a registrar is online. How much that affects the overall cost of a wedding depends on how much you're planning to spend in total...

Cheers for that. And I see; I was very surprised at the rep
