i need tips on quitting smoking....i haven't had one since saturday(well done me) mostly due to a bad cold but i'm really worried that when i go out to the pub tonight i'll be dying for one etc... has anyone quit smoking..how did you do it? any good advice? do i need to buy nicorette gum or anything? does it work? cheers x
good luck at the pub you'll need it. i think that the chewing gum and lozenges are quite good but it depends on you and your willpower more than anything, and you could always go to ur doctor about it an they can refer you to smoking cessation services, support groups and the like.
ive just miserably failed my latest attempt to stop but if your ready to stop then you'll be reet
I don't know if this works, never having smoked and therefore never having needed to give up but have a go... I heard it helps to hold a pen or similar to your mouth, as it feels like holding a cigarette, and that it makes you feel satistifed...or something like that...try it and see! tips on quitting smoking huh? heres one.. dont smoke. simple. i quit as it was seriously affecting my health, having smoked solidly 30+ a day since i was 9. you don't need 'help' you just need some will to stop killing yourself, its not hard.

Why do you smoke??? Find out the reaons why you smoke then find something else to replace it, itll be easy to find a healthy alternative. if you need to ask more on that one feel free to PM me
its difficult trying to quit, especially if ur friends continue to smoke around u etc when ur out socialisng. i always find i smoke more when im out at night.. tips i would give u are the ones im following myself. cut back first of all....limit ur self to 1 every half hour, an hour etc.... then widen the gap every time u go out. ive not smoked for 1 week. it is hard but im proud of myself for sayin no.....especially as im in my first year at uni and socialise most nighs! at then end of the day uve just got to tell urself that is bad for ur health (i recently quit my county netball team as i was becomin unhealthy...im bak in trainin now), and think of the money u spend! i put the money in a jar and then save it after every 3 weeks....treat urself to somthing new that uve wanted! its hard but it can be done.
7 days so far and already feeling better..... thanks guys really appreciate the advice. in response to rockport and mnbstyle, i smoke because i really enjoy it...but i know it's so stupid! and just keep thinking how totally irrational it is, to be this well informed about the dangers and how lethal it is, and carry on doing it! so it's time to stop. i think i'll definitely be ok during the day but i know as soon as i get a beer in my hand it will be hard. this i dont really understand- if cravings aren't that bad during the day, why do they get soooo much worse when i'm drinking? must be a state of mind...anyways to this end i'm not going to drink untill next weekend...or longer this is the best time to do it- a long way from xmas and an even longer way from exam stress....but it is gonna be hard!!!
I smoke mainly due to boredom - am in my first year at uni and there's really not that much to do, plus it's social (I know, it smells and it's disgusting, but it doesn't stop the possibilites of talking to other smokers ). But I'm giving up... as of now... I've got a bet with one of my flatmates, not much money but it's still an incentive to stop. Plus it made me feel really sick tonight, no idea why - so if ever I want one I'll just think of that sick feeling. That and the fact that my boyfriend hates it should be enough! Wish me luck though!

You got it state of mind, you know once your more relaxed after a few drinks itll make sense and maybe be a habit for you to keep up this rythm of relaxation with a smoke, Good to know your really willing to stop thoe, and as for exam stresses then find other ways to relax, theres plenty of ways you can do it
