Seen worse than that on the produce department mate. I've worked in tescos years.
You'd never catch me buying food from there for many many reasons.

Ooh for what other reasons besides worm infested celery packs? do share

eewwwwwww, i feel for you man! yesterday i bought some potatos and there was SOIL on them! like the stuff from the ground! It's an outrage!

Seriously though, man up.

Reply 62

I would have probably just washed them off to be honest.

I think when you buy veg you have to expect them to have some kind of bugs on them at times, its only natural. I eat a lot of home grown veg so I guess Im used to it.

Having said that I saw the other day that there had been some deaths in Texas due to contaminated celery. However Im sure you have nothing to worry about

The only food Ive ever complained about was when my husband found a big chunk of glass in a Gregg's sausage roll.

Glass??? How the bejuses did they manage that?!

Gotta be the people that make them, a raw Greggs sausage roll isn't the sort of thing something can fall "into".

Reply 65

No idea, it was thick glass though, like the sort you get in coca cola bottles. I dont even know if they make them on the premises or if they are made elsewhere and just heated up in the bakery.

Reply 66

WHAT? It's a vegetable, it grows from the ground! Wash it off, it won't hurt you! You should expect bits of soil/greenflies etc on your veggies, it's a natural product.

Reply 67

If you think that's bad, I found A two inch caterpillar in my brocolli as I was eating it  WTF didn't it fall out when it was being cooked?!

And it was from Tesco too :p:

Reply 68

I'm sure they contribute to your 5 a day.

A guy I used to work with I caught ****ing in the produce chiller, twice.
Then a manager caught him a couple of times too and he got sacked. So it wasn't a rare occurance.

Oh and one of my colleagues on nights told me he ****ed in the dairy chiller once.

We often play catch with spuds, cabbages, pretty much anything round on nights and they get bashed about. Juggling too.

Banana spiders, nuff said, scary ****ing things, i don't want them crawling on my fruit.

Not to mention the fruit and veg is often left about for days in the ambient because of stupid over ordering, it's rarely fresh.

Heard some stories about things growing in things.

Oh it's also overpriced, low quality and they treat their suppliers and staff like ****.

Lots of reasons for you to consider your local greengrocers.

If we can't trust tesco, what supermarket do you trust?
What happens?

See previous post for some of the things I've seen, and thats just produce, I could spend hours telling the things that go on on other departments.

Lol, you trust tesco, poor bastard.

I don't trust any supermarket, local independant shops man, homegrowing too (though more limited now I'm at uni with a tiny garden and no allotment yet).

It's actually a lot cheaper for me to go to local independants, and I always get much better quality food from it. People are lulled into thinking supermarkets are cheap, and at one point maybe they were, but people have long since given up comparing to proper shops and pay whatever asda, tescos, other crappy place. Deems cheap.

I actually trust tesco. There is no independant store near me.

You trust a company which so blatently lies to it's customers.
Might come as a shock but they don't care about their customers, if it'd make them more money they'd pump carcinogens into their chicken.

Actual laughter, take off the ****ing rose tinted glasses mate.

What reason do you have to trust tescos? Honestly?

I am ignorant.

I thought we have laws at national and European level taking care.
Tesco is a big company and it is more likely to obey and go further with regualations to give that "good image of it's company".

I am shocked. Who do I trust?

I wouldn’t have eaten it but I certainly wouldn't complain. I'd rather find a worm in my celery once every blue moon then have it filled with pesticides.

Surely it's to be expected?

The size of tescos legal department you'd be surprised what they get away with.

Let me put it this way, our store is probably up to scratch on health and safety for inspections only.
I complained 5-6 times to the store manager and a few times to head office about a massive hole in the floor in the warehouse, eventually a cage full of canned goods (which believe me are heavy) got caught as I was pulling it and fell on top of me breaking 3 ribs and giving me a concussion. It's still not been fixed.
A customer broke their leg on a broken drain cover in the car park, we'd had complaints in triple figures about that leading up to it.
We've been told to put reduction stickers over sell by dates and just chuck it out on the shelf many times.
Fridge in the pharamcy was off for a day, they didn't even check if the medication has gone off, for all they know they've sold dodgey insulin and killed someone.
Cut up value chickens, put on the deli counter, sell as organic (I actually told my manager to **** off and went home when he suggested this)
The fuel storage tanks actually let moisture in so occasionally in our store after a heavy rain you'll get some water with your fuel, because they don't want to fix it.

You go look at the inner workings of their stores, mate, head office has no control over them and they are run as cheaply as possible. Their profit margin is all they care for, couldn't care less about their customers falling ill, hurting themselves. Couldn't care less about their suppliers. Staff? Nope. Cut corners. Break rules.
At the end of the day they are only about money.

Big company? The mistakes and cons are less noticable, small suppliers, it's a lot easier to see as a person walking into their shop.

Dear Tesco/celery fans & Co,
I have found disgusting red worms in a pack of celery I bought from them recently and thought I would share. I found them wrapping themselves around the smaller pieces in the middle -sadly this was after already eating two :zomg: which tasted funny.
I know you have to wash them before eating but this is just revolting! Should I write and complain?
Here is a pic: :eek4:

i also found a thin red worm still alive in the celery it was from the middle of the celery where the leaves are it had been in the fridge it was from tescos i did have a stomach ache couple of days before but flushed worm down the sink and threw rest of celery away it has put me off celery
