The LSE library is amazing

I've finally been and did some note taking on the Constitution today, didn't have time to use the 2nd floor though. I'm hoping to take advantage of the resourced available there to help further my studies and it's closer to my Halls of Residence than my college one too.

I got a week pass as I'm not an LSE student and filled in a form for a card which lasts for one year (bit annoying in having to renew it but it's no big deal). So, if I have nothing to do I'll be down there.

Anyone here used it?

Its fab! But then again I've only seen one other college library to compare it with. I signed up for the UCL one as its so close to my halls but haven't actually been back there since, seeing as the LSE one caters for all my needs.

No need. As long as I live close by and other aspects of my life are nearby such as my sporting activities etc then it doesn't matter.

I'm thinking about signing up for the UCL and KCL too but then that is it, I think. Oh I nearly forgot the Senate House library. If I study anything to do with Africa then SOAS is on the list too. God I feel like a right nerd.

What about the British Library? I used it last year, it's really useful.

I've been there and would use it if need be but at the moment I see what they university libraries have first and if that fails then use the British Library. Incidently, I have been there albeit only once.

Hi - just a quick question ... can any student use these libraries or do you have to be a UoL student? They sound so good ...

If your library is on this list, yes you can.

Only because you haven't seen the SOAS library yet.

Grrrr! I hate the LSE library! For one thing, if you're afraid of heights (as I am), then you're kinda screwed above the first floor. The whole place just feels so...sterile...and it's always packed and noisy (even though everyone's trying to be quiet) and I find it an impossible place to study. And don't get me started on the wisdom of having two copies of a book in the course collection when 80 people are trying to get copies!

I've got a readers pass for the UCL legal library (IALS) and I'm planning on getting one for the British Library as well. At least I'll be able to read the stuff that's required for class (but always missing from the LSE library).

Sorry for the rant.

Argh! The course collection is awful, I must admit. Yesterday I had to make do with a 2nd edition copy of intermediate microeconomics that looked like it had smallpox because it was the only copy left.

I think you will find LSE isn't exclusive in that department.

I agree.
i get a little sick feeling whenever i go in....i don't associate that building with anything good at all. i think it'd because they open it 24hrs over exam times....i just didn't know when to stop!!
and on the CC- man they have 5 copies of the core text for a course with 200 students. and it's an MSc course so we are spending thousands to be here!! poor form.

Another thing I like is that they have labels on the book when they are a recommended text.

You should see Founder's library at Royal Holloway! And our Music library has more in it that the one at Senate House...

But I don't study music so :p:

How true. I get really annoyed when there are two copies of a certain book that's required reading for the entire IR class (140 students), while I see 10 books on some stupid topic, none of which are ever taken.

Waste of expenditure if you ask me.

What? IR? the books? the whole stupid LSE library? You would think they make enough on fines from those of us who fail to read and return books within a 24-hour period to be able to buy a few more copies (and I'm sorry LSE if I goofed and kept it for 25 hours!

Oops, did I sound bitter?

I didn't think students can hire books from there for now on anyway?
