Firm and insurance choices for medicine?

Surely this wouldn't work in the way it does for other subjects?

If, say, you get two offers for medicine, chances are they'll both be AAB offers, but then how do you choose a firm and insurance? Because if you don't make the grades for your firm choice, you won't have made the grades for your insurance choice, so there isn't much point of having an insurance, is there?

Could someone explain this please?

Some places might be in a position to offer you a place with ABB when you needed AAB, others might not. Puting down 2 unis even though the grade requirements are the same is a very sensible idea.

I agree with you on this one, but sorry I'm from the days when I had AAB firm, ABB Insurance, I have seen people with AAB as both Firm and Insurance tho so don't know if they were thinking that another Uni may be more sympathatic if they missed a grade. this is an interesting one, will they make less offers this year because they are AAB?

Also, some universities, such as Nottingham, "tag" their offers, so it's AAB but you MUST get As in Chemistry and Biology, while others ask for AAB in any subjects. In that case it would be possible to have the Notts one as firm and another one as insurance and get into that (say if you missed an A in one of those two but got it in another subject).

I didn't put down an insurance though, I didn't see the point.

Because you were so confident that you'd make the grades regardless?
