Hey everyone, I stumbled upon this fabuolous site whilst on my pre-OASC hunt for knowledge
I'm due to go at the end of this month and I know its proper dress after 6pm in the mess but I was just wondering what about the rest of the time?? Being a typical girl of course!
Thanks in advance

I would advise wearing proper dress all the time. You will have very little time to change with the OASC Schedule and as people say you are probably being assessed continuosly, no need to let your attire work against you.

You aren't being assessed continously at all, however if a boarding Officer is in the bar with the candidates and you happen to challenge him to a shot race then it won't go down well.

Wear a suit at all times, or the girly equivilant. You will be located in the cadidates mess which should still be considered like an Officers mess. This includes where you sleep as well as the bar, dining room and ante room.

The only thing I would suggest wearing other than a suit is running kit if you fancy a run around base.

ah, thank you - much appreciated! I take it trouser suits are equally as acceptable as more traditional skirt/jacket approach?

I wasn't sure about this one as it says in the OASC booklet that women should wear either skirt or dress in the Candidates Mess. I bought a nice new trouser suit a couple of months back and now I'm thinking I should buy a skirt.

You can wear trousers, a skirt or a dress. Just make sure that the skirt or dress comes below the knees and that the dress covers the shoulders. You should wear a suit with either trousers or a skirt for your interview.

Thanks for the clarification Blackhawk. That will save me some money!
You're welcome

Thanks Blackhawk, that's one less thing to have to think about now!
If you fancy a wander around the base (remember to stick to the candidates and general areas, no wandering around near College Hall or on airfields!) then you could bring some smart jeans. There is a Spar shop and a takeaway that can deliver to the mess.

I'd recommend bringing some DVDs as the candidates mess has a DVD player but really crap DVDs. Would be a good way to get your board together after a long day.

Behind Enemy Lines? :-D
For the aptitude tests, you are allowed to be more casully dressed, i.e you don't need to wear a jacket; guys are allowed to wear a smart jumper/polo shirt type thing.
(Just so you can be more comfortable!)

I'll probably go for the suit trousers and open necked shirt so still look smart

Do they allow shell suits and baseball caps at OASC? :p: :p: :p:
Reply 18
NO! however Army's Queens Regs stipulate that Caps are not acceptable unless they are Burbury in design with a matching scalf/bandanna. Equally, shell suits are banned from all RAF stations, but the Army would be more than happy to have you with one as it saves them having to issue them from their stores.
