It would be quite difficult to do a placement in Australia - my friend tried and they wouldnt accept her as she did not have any training already!

If you have some sort of training in health care/nursing (eg an NVQ 2) then this may be ok.

You could contact the Australian High Commisioner (Mr Richard Alston) on 020 7379 4334 - sorry couldnt find an email address!

I went to Australia last year with College and whilst there, i visited a hospital in Sydney to see about voluntary work (as i am hoping to study Med) - I managed to arrange something - but it was nothing special! I was there to basically talk to the patients and give out meals etc...

Ok, thanks for that.. do you have any idea if it would be easier say after a first year of study nursing?

I think for now I will return to Africa and help in the hospital I volunteered in during August / September but hopefully later on I could try other locations.

I just can't keep my feet on home ground, I love to travel, so any way of combining studying / a career with the ability to travel is perfect for me.

lol get a bit more experience behind you and you should have no problem finding paid auxiliary work in australia.

Your best bet is contacting the Australia High Commission and see what they say - you never know, the experience you have from Africa may stand you in good stead.

Thanks, I'll give him a call and see what happens.. though I thought about it and I might go next Christmas instead to Australia (so hopefully would have auxiliary nursing experience from job at home.. plus some studying at uni already) and at that time it's their summer
