Is this too low a weight?

Right, basically I've been trying to lose weight.I've succeeded so far(lost half a stone) but now I've decided I need a target.

I'm currently 9 stone 2 and am 5 foot 2. I want to weigh about 7 stone 12(would probably be a size 6/8 if I reached this weight I guess...)...but at the same time I don't want to look completely starved or anything. Is this a bit too low a weight to aim for?Would it make me underweight?I'd quite like to be just on the lower end of the scale of being normal(just above underweight in other words)...

Opinions please.

Oh good god no way.I am eating definitely.

I couldn't starve myself.

killerbee-All I do is eat smaller portions than I used to eg.instead of eating a whole bar of chocolate I'll have 2 chunks.Or I'll eat a Tunnock's teacake(91 calories!).I won't have bread and butter with a meal.Swapped to skimmed milk.Tend to drink more peppermint and herbal teas and water....drinks have A LOT of hidden calories.

hi sweetie, according to your bmi, you are currently at a healthy weight and at your target weight you still would be. just. the bmi is not a perfect system to use but provides a good guide. therefore physically that is an OK target weight. however, it's probaby best to consider why you want to lose weight, and also what the best way of doing this would be. target weights are sometimes hard to achieve, due to build etc so you should perhaps focus on eating healthily, taking regular exercise etc
and finally (to answer your actual question) a size 6/8 on someone short generally doesn't make you look starved or gaunt , but petite. in my opinion anyway.
if you ever need to talk, feel free to pm me. gaia x

Haha, yeah I always get suspicious when people go on about weight loss....I've known a few people with eating disorders so I know how horrible it is.

There is just no way I could starve myself.I enjoy my food too much.I also know it happens to screw up your metabolism and you actually end up getting fatter than you were originally if you start eating as normal again.

Thanks,my reasons for wanting to lose weight are because I just want to look better. I feel at the moment I'm a bit too...well,not chubby,but....big.I don't carry weight well so losing some will make me look a bit more in proportion.

Hmmmmm,oh yes that's another thing,I gave up alcohol!Ha.

Erm,well what would be a typical days eating for you?Do you pick at food eg.the bar of chocolate in the fridge?Do you have bread with meals?Do you put loads of mayo and sauce on your food?Do you have huge portions?

Things like these can all contribute.

Things like switching to granary bread and wholemeal pasta can also help I do believe as the body burns the energy better or something...

the body burns whole grains slower so you dont get sugar highs/lows and need to eat sugar more
and and are you exercising cos that will help keep you toned as well - if you are exercise rember muscle weighs more than fat but it also burns more calories than fat does

hi,
i am your exact height and weight- 9st2 and feel fat at the moment...i really hate having to buy size 12, when i always used to be an 8 or 10. infact, it stops me from going shopping!! and it's depressing not being able to fit into half my wardroabe! for instance. before i went to uni i was just over 8st and it was perfect. i got down to 8 st7 during my finals and i was pretty happy with that too. i'd say around 8st would be fine, it would make u skinny, but not unhealthy -dont go much lower...its very very hard work to keep it off though! good luck.

maybe if you didn't eat a jar of nuttella a day?

I think that if your 5ft 2 then weighing 7st 12 will be fine, youll be nice and slim, maybe a size 8 not a 6/8 though.
I'm 5ft 5 and fluctuate between 7st 12-8st 1 and i dont look to skinny so i doubt you would either since youre a little shorter than me. just make sure you lose weight sensibly. it wont happen overnight.

Reply 19

Yeh I'd be a 6/8 I reckon...my top half is smaller than my bottom half so I have a smaller waist and whatnot.I'm around a size 10 now(probably a 12 on the bottom).

OK as long as it is not underweight, that's all I was worried about.I didn't think it was...I just mentioned it to someone and now they think I am insane...I don't know if the 7 stone bit got them.
