Situps will just tone your stomach muscles - if they're covered in fat it won't do much. Cardiovascular is what you need. And possibly slightly less beer

if you cant be arsed to exercise the only way is to starve yourself or just eat healthily
sorry

There was no question of not being bothered exercising? It's just what's easy/relatively quick etc...I'm completely ignorant when it comes to anything exercise-ish

Last year I lost a stone and a half just by cutting out bread, potatoes and pasta. I didn't do any more exercise than usual either.

I may have a go at that, for a while anyway  though living without potatoes may kill me

Ooooh and what alternatives did you have?? Just to be nosy

I'm normally flabby, but recently I've earned the status of fat ****.

Yesterday I measured myself at 14 stone, so far today I've eaten nothing. I think I'll try some slim fast in a hour. I also plan to join a gym today as well.

I moved to france and lost a stone in a month.

I'd advise you to get a French cookbook and try some of the stuff out. I hardly eat any starchy food now, maybe a side portion of potatoes and pasta and rice a week, if that. When I lived in Britain I ate cheese on toast all the time and pasta. Just eat losts of fruit and veg and cut down on your carb intake!

if you count calories and eat 500 less than your maintenance you should lose a minimum of 1 pound a week

I'm looking for the best most effective way 2 lose weight which isn't especially time consuming as I'm stupidly busy.
I'm willing to try anything [not stupid 'faddy' diets obv] to lose about a stone and just need some advice from anyone whose done this or more please give me some hints!

Cut your calorie intake by a 1/3. Simple as that.

are you to busy to go for a run in the evening or in the morning? easy way to stay in shape is to go out and run for 30 min or as long as you want a couple of times a week. that doesn't take that much time either. however if don't have time to do any exercise at all the only thing you can do is change your diet.

i am completely changing my diet...in the sense of nothing fried, no white anything when there's a brown alternative and I do walk to and from college which takes about 30 minutes each way so I'm hoping this'll work . Hopefully this will be enough as I'm completely snowed under with work/college etc!!!

i thought the recommended calorie intake for girls was 2000 a day? but on this slip of paper i got printed out from a weighing machine it said to maintain my current weight i need to eat 1500 a day. i want to lose 3-4lbs, so how many cals a day do u think i need to aim for?

Reply 14

I've lost four to five pounds in the past three weeks simply by cutting out coffee and cutting down on coke and chocolate .

Reply 15

i dont drink coffee and only drink diet coke. and i'm allergic to dairy so no choc either! well done to you, dont think it would work for me tho!

Exercises like walking (I walked about 3 miles every day for 2 weeks), v-sits (Sit on the floor with your knees bent so your knees are near your chest. Push off the floor and lift your knees as high in front as you can) and other simple, low impact exercises are good, especially because they don't take up much time and you can work them into your routine. I lost a stone and a half in 2 weeks through doing this.
My diet didn't change significantly, though I cooked all food that I ate myself from scratch, so no crap from processed food.

If you can walk or cycle to work/uni etc that really helps, I live in Sheffield where there are plenty of hills to get your heart pumping...failing that, you'll have to cut out the crap - its the only way, only eat when you're hungry, make sure your calories will fill you up, all the basic advice really.

Reply 18

Cardio can burn a great deal of calories, eat more fruit, cut out the crap (as has already been mentioned).

Although I probably wont be of much help as my aim is the opposite of yours...

Go on the "university of london" diet. It's where you pretty much can't afford to eat.

Beyond that; listen to the french thing. I know a lot of french people and they are nearly all thin. There must be something in it...
