as long as you drive fine they wont pull you over because they wont know you dont have a license. but..if you do get stopped, even if someone goes into you or something, then you will have lots of problems!

Like oneyedandgreen (sorry i dont know your real name!) says, you will be fine if you drive carefully and are not caught. If you end up having a smash with another car (even if its not your fault) thats when the trouble begins.

I know quite a few people who have done this and were fine, i dont think i could risk it though-i'd be caught

Yeah, not realy worth the risk and if you haven had driving lessons no matter how good you think you are you wont be as good as other people in the road (not saying you cannt drive, just you will be able to tell if you watch carefully)
It's not me, it's my mate.

true story about someone in my area. they were waiting for their provisional to arrive and decided to go around the block in their new polo for a bit, up the high street etc. they a minute or two into the journey, they got pulled over by the police because they didn't have their lights on (unintentional error) and were banned from driving for a year.

also, it's obviously a danger to other road users and i know that driving can seem so simple at times, but all it takes is a slight lack if experience/bad luck/not looking and you could kill someone, or some people. it's really not worth it.

You could get lucky... but on the other hand - if anything happens, even if not your fault, you could be in real trouble. Besides, you won't have insurance without a license, which is equally serious.
Yep, that happened to my uncle he was banned from driving for a year before he even got a liscence, not worth the risk if you ask me.
Also you can be quite heavily fined for driving without insurance, and should you have a crash as soon as the other driver finds that you have no insurance they could call the police (I know I would). If you drove off and they get your registration and the car your driving is in your or someone in your familys name the police will find you.

In short " Driving without a license." Don't
chupacabras

Couldn't agree more. Although I know how tempting it is - I had a car whilst I was learning and it was so frustrating having to get the bus etc when I could drive, in my opinion, safely.

However the only person who can assess whether your driving is legally 'safe' is the DSA and so it's not worth risking it.

Tell your mate not to bother. Too risky and it's not fair to other road users (he'll be uninsured as well).
if your mate is really a safe enough driver to be able to drive safely on the roads without being supervised then he should do his test and get a licence. learners always think they are good drivers (i know i did when i was learning) but they forget that normally they have someone sitting next to them to help them if they end up in a bad situation.

What's your take on my situation?

Got my provisional in Feb, have had 15 driving lessons, and i'm pretty confident (but as u say, learner drivers probably all think that).

My dad bought a ****** 988cc micra for me (mainly to lower insurance, as u probably know, insurance in my own name, with my experience and no claims years, would be like £3500)

Anyho, The micra has dual control, and i'll only be driving it when my dad is next to me.

Am I doing anything wrong or illegal or dangerous if I am driving (wit my dad)
Dosent matter if u have provisional or full driving license, its all about the insurance.

If your dad has had a full, valid driving license for three years (and is over the age of 21  ) then it is perfectly OK.

when I was a learner i thought i was soo crap :frown: but then I did have that surge of "Im the best" confidence once lol but it soon died down after my next lesson lol..
Tell your 'mate' he's an absolute tit, not to mention a moron if he does this.

He can't drive because he hasn't passed his test. He hasn't passed his test for a reason. If he killed someone because he has the inability to drive correctly then he would not only ruin his own life, but lots of other peoples too.

If he's that desperate, book his test.

How likely are you to get pulled if you drive carefully?

People who do this really piss me off. If caught driving without a licence they should be hung drawn and quartered.

But with a provisional lisance with his dad who probaly has his full licence then IU don't see anything wrong. But Don't take my word for it.
Like visesh said, it's fine to drive as long as you have your provisional liscence, are insured on the car your driving (you personally, not the person sat next to you), and have someone over the age of 21 who has held a full UK driving liscence for 3 years or more. That's perfectly legal, should you get stopped by the police you'll be fine, (as long as you didn't run a light or are driving dangerously etc.)
The car failed it's MOT. End of story for the car!
