Is there anything I need to bring to register for an NHS dentist?

I am currently a member of the underclass which means I don't have to pay for basic NHS treatment. I found a practise in the council estate about 1 mile away from me which is taking on NHS patients. I want to register with them but is there anything I need to take? I would prefer to go in person rather than phoning them up etc. (I hate phones becuase of my hearing loss).

What kind of ID will I need?

Proof of address, so then know you are within the catchment area.

Also some way of proving you qualify for nhs treatment (not 100% on that one though).

And clearly ID, but I think that is all.

EDIT: Lots of info here, if you haven't found it already: http://www.nhs.uk/England/Dentists/Default.aspx

From memory, I dont think I needed to take anything when I registered, although you might want to take some cash with you as I was asked to pay a deposit of £15 which was refunded after my first course of treatment. If you dont have to pay, you might need to take proof with you, ie any certificate/documentation you might have.

Damn the catchment are might be a problem, the one I mentioned is apparantly famous for being well shoddy, so I found another one but its 4 miles away in the city centre :frown:

You might be ok if they are down as registering NHS patients, or they could fob you off to the other one..

Worth a try, and you're probably more likely to be in luck in person than over the phone anyway.
