Tones you up. It's a bit boring... I did it once and quit.

Makes you far more 'supple' (I quote), can help to lose weight but not by itself. I do it twice a week, and it's a combination of yoga and cardio I guess - sort of halfway between the two. It's lots of ball squats, lunges, press ups (which I STILL cannot do), sit ups, jogging etc. I will warn you though - you feel great straight afterwards, but you really regret it the next morning when you can't move for stiffness!

It's good, you guys should try it out! I did a few classes over the holidays but I'm a bit busy now, so while I do some Pilates at home, I'm concentrating mostly on cardio atm coz losing weight.

is it really possible to lose weight with pilates? i have read everything here and it seems to me that it is kind of to make you healthy, like cardio and etc...but is it helping to lose weight? Coz i also was offered to do that in my gym, but still a bit concerned....

that isnt pilates!
pilates consists of some slow stretching out to start off with but is mostly lots of small but quite hardgoing moves
it really builds up body strength and our teacher does spend alot of time working on stomach muscles
its not realy cardio but tis great fun

i do core stability which is very similar to pilates for rowing and i find it really good. helps tone up your abs and really good for strength. although minutes of planks seem to last forever!

its great for core strenght and if you have back problems will help build up your back muscles.

It gave me the hottest abs ever.

Give it a go, you will find you have muscles you did not know about but you feel so good. YOu won't get fit from it as there is no cardio, but your muscle def will improve.

Ballet dancers do it, and its a really good low impact tone up.
