Did roaccutane have any really bad side effects on you who used it? I heard some ppl start losing their hair and that it just makes your skin so dry it hurts. Stuff like that. Also, many ppl seem to be really reluctant to take it, because it's so strong ?! I like the idea of really clear skin for life, but all these creepy talk about roaccutine scares me  Also, my skin isn't bad enough so that I don't think I'd get it. I just break out sometimes and it annoys me. I guess it's normal, but I just see some of my friends who have COMPLETELY clear skin and then it annoys me and I want a wonderdrug like roa lol

The effects weren't as extreme as hair falling out! but my skin really did dry up...my lips were the worst. I tried everything on it, but they were always bleeding :frown: I suppose its worth it in the end though, thats what i kept telling myself!

Skin dries up a fair bit. And lips dry up alot, so use lim balm. My acne was never that bad, but I got roaccutane privately anyway. I had no problems except dry skin/lips.

The worst bit is the dry skin - I got through so much moisturizer and Vaseline lip balm you just wouldn't believe it! My hair fell out slightly - not noticeable, but when you wash your hair you get quite a lot coming out. Thats the only effect that's really long lasting though I think - I stopped using roaccutane about two years ago, and I still lose masses of hair when I wash it. It's really not a big deal though, as it isn't nearly enough to make a difference. Nosebleeds were the only other physical side effect I got, not serious ones though, just fairly frequent.

The one effect you want to worry about is that it can cause depression, so if there's a history of it in your family then DON'T TAKE IT. There's a completely clear record of it in my family, but according to people around me I was still very mood-swingy, so God knows what it would be like for someone vulnerable to depression. Other than that, I'd go for it!

Roaccutane worked wonders for me aswell, I had completely clear skin. As others have said you will get really dry skin, and especially dry lips. Also I had a slight problem of some of my joints aching after I'd played sport, but that went away as soon as I'd stopped taking it. Now, about 2 years after I finished, I definately don't have perfect skin - but it's nowhere NEAR as bad as it used to be so I can't complain

I keep on hearing these successful roaccutane stories, but what effect did it have on your school life, i.e. studying?

How bad does the acne have to be to be prescribed these medicines?

any severity. If it is just a bit, then you would probably be prescribed zynerite (sp?), which is a tropical applicant to your face. You will most likely be prescribed face applications first, then if they don't work, you get into the tablets, etc..

None whatsoever.

Apparently it's not that uncommon for acne to return after taking Roaccuntane. It's very likely that it will ever be as bad as it was before though. Maybe some simpler treatments such as topical creams or the pill could help you control the recurrence.

Yep I am on Roaccutane and was told before I took it that it isn't a miracle cure and that the spots may come back after I finish takining them. Some people never get another spot again, some get them back within a few weeks. It all depends on the person.

I was told however that once you have been on a course of Roaccutane, antibiotics are generally much more effective than they were previously, and so it may be worth going back to your doctor and see if you can get some. Other options are to go on another course of Roaccutane but you need to wait a year before they will let you do this (your liver needs time to recover from the last course). I suspect they would only do this if your acne comes back really bad though.

for me, most of the time I gained confidence after drastic changes and everyone commented on how good i looked  i have to admit that at times I could be quite moody, but that might just be a coincidence

Try freederm to prevent them from developing (i tried loads of stuff including doctors stuff which didnt work for me). I know its easy for them to get you down, but if you act like they aren't there and that they don't bother you, other people won't notice them, trust me

Just make sure you wear a shirt.

I am 21, and had THREE courses of roaccutane as a teenager (at 16, 17, and 18). Each time, my skin was clear for about 6 months before the acne came back. No reputable doctor will EVER prescribe it for more than 3 courses, so after the last time my doctor put me on dianette. It worked wonders, just as well as accutane (but I'm sure having had the accutane helped, at least I hope so...could have spared myself three years of dry skin! although I didn't experience any significant problems with Roa except the fact that the results didn't last). When I went off dianette after a year, my acne came back within months, so now I'm back on it and have totally clear skin. This only works if you're a girl, of course.
But either way, make sure you're not using irritating facial products and cosmetics. Try never to wear foundation (if you must, Clinique's Almost Makeup is the best - www.zerozits.com has analysed the ingredients and found them to be safe for skin with acne). And ask your doctor for a topical cream as well.

:ditto:

you only had any 'visible spots,' and you wouldn't know how other people are feeling, and you don't even know the extent of his/her acne.

i feel so happy for you, as lnog as you don't have any visible spots, the world will be ok. trying having acne so severe it stopa you going out, and having the life you're supposed to have as a teenager.

hey guys. ok i genuinly regret my post :frown: i didnt realise some people were so sensitive to it as i never had it :frown: but the waiting out advice was serious. its the only thing you can do i think? also your not the only one because so many people have lots of spots these days, its not exactly unusual to see someone with lots of spots in public.

98%? That figure is utter Bullsh*t. You are incredibly ignorant.

And probably don't even know what bad spots are.

Bad spots will leave scars pal.

sure plenty of people get acne, but that doesn't stop me feelling like a reject when I'm out. I cold be in a room full of people with acne, and i would still think "they're looking a my skin" :frown:
