I got cheap food today because the man thought I was a student. I went to lunch with 2 friends and he asked them if they were students and checked their cards and just rung my through on the student price.
Ah right, pretending to be a student to get cheap stuff? Or just to impress people? Tisnt really that impressive really though.
Do you wear a beret and hang around art galleries looking moody and interesting?
Well most places ask if you're a student. I have said that I was before and forgot my card (I was actually a student then technically though). Although I don't really see why it's fair that the student discount even exists.

Goodwill. By offerening a discount, the students feel like they've got a bargain and it creates company loyalty.
It's not like comapnies are forced to give a discount. They choose to because they reckon that overall they'll get more customers and make more cash. And the fact that the discounts have been around for so long suggests that it works..
