I applied about 3 weeks ago as well I phoned up on saturday and they said they were still processing there applications. They don't reply unless they actually want you to go to the interview or whatever. It may be best to phone to see how your application is doing.

I gave in my application form for WHSmiths about 3 weeks for the Xmas temps. But they haven't replied yet.
Can someone who works there or has applied there tell me when they reply.

I would ring up if I were you and see what is happening otherwise you will never know properly, have you applied for any other christmas jobs?

It's so demoralising when you're looking for a part -time job and places don't even have the decency to reply. Luckily I got a job in the end but when I was looking for one I applied to WH Smith, Safeway and Sainsbury's, none of which could be bothered to acknowledge I existed.

But even worse was Marks and Spencer, they give you no choice but to apply online and basically they let a computer decide whether to reject you or not, I applied and got an email back 5 minutes later that was clearly computer generated telling me to sod off basically. Guess you must've pushed the right buttons sweetie999, personally I wouldn't want to work for a place that has that kind of selection procedure.

Sorry just needed to get that off my chest.

What should I say if I ring up?

Having dealt with people who ring up to ask about their job application, I can save you the expense of telephoning and tell you what will happen.

Your call will be answered either by someone in the cash office, whereupon you will be asked to hold while they try to find someone who can tell you they haven't finished processing applications, or it will be answered by someone at Customer Services, who will also put you on hold and try to find a manager to tell you that the applications haven't been processed. It won't help in the slightest, but it will annoy people.

Going in and asking is even worse. Not one of the people who came and asked while I was at my branch (nine months) was even called back for interview, let alone hired.

It's so frustrating looking for a part time job when no-one seems interested. What makes it even worse is that quite a few of the people that work in shops everyday are so braindead and so bored and rude you just wonder how they would get through an application process, let alone keep their job. ( no offence to anyone, most are quite helpful).
Makes it even worse, since you think if they can get the job, everyone can right? Wrong.

I have been looking for a couple of months and I have applied to almost every shop in town. I think when I bring my application form in, the snooty, cliquey girls take one look at me then chuck my form in the bin. Its getting ridiculous! I wish they would just have the courtesy to send a letter tellng you that you've been unsuccessful.

Tell me about it  I searched basically the whole of the town for part time jobs and applied for WH smith, BHS, poundstore, TK Maxx, Toys r Us, Matalan...and none of them replied! Luckily I managed to get a christmas temp job at Woolworths in the end

That annoys me too. I was back at uni in early aug so thought Id get ahead of the job rush and maybe get jobs where people have gone back to uni. Asked in LOADS of shops in town and they all said there were no jobs availabe. I sent CV's and covering letters to about 6 shops anyway and not one had the decentcy (sp?) to reply apart from one which was obviously a generic reply they send to everyone. Places should, at a minimum, do this to at least acknowledge they received your application/ CV etc.

Going to see about an xmas job at debenhams at the uni job exchange tomorrow....wish me look!!
