Thats harsh! Smoking doesn't necessarily mean you're gonna die earlier than anyone else, my gran has been smoking nearly all of her life and shes in her 80's... the thing is im not sure if this dragging chest pain is due to stress, smoking, lack of exercise... what the most likely? Im thinking im not sure if its smoking because i haven't really been smoking that long...

No offence, but the only piece of health advice that a smoker needs is to give it up.

And just because your gran lived till her 80s doesn't mean you'll live till your 40s

There is scientific evidence that you will die earlier than you normally would if you smoke. Anecdotal evidence of 'my gran's not dead' is not at all conclusive. If you smoke, you will die sooner. Fact.

its easy for a non-smoker to say that but its not really that easy and plus with the stress of exams etc im not sure if its worth the extra effort it could effect my grade

Your chest pains could be due to other reasons - but smoking definitely won't help. I understand that it might be hard for you to give up, but I really, really urge you to. It's going to do you no good whatsoever. If you're a heavy smoker, just tone it down gradually. Why do you not want to give it up? Is it peer pressure? Does it make you feel better? Is it part of your routine?

Incidentally, my dad used to be a heavy smoker... then he somehow managed to quit when he got a toothache (he couldn't hold anything between his teeth for ages), lol.

Excuses like 'its easy for a non-smoker' but its hard for you isn't that great. The NHS offers so much assistance for smokers its a joke and there are so many different groups in this country that'll help you to quit.

i understand what you're all saying and i kind of do want to give up... another difficulty is that i live in a flat of 6 girls who all smoke, i see 1 of them smoking and it gives me the urge to light one up myself... sounds dum i know but its the way it is
Some shops sell like nicotine stuff that you can use; I'm not sure how they work - don't you stick them onto your skin or something? There are trillions of websites on the Internet about quitting smoking (just Google it). It's not that much effort to browse a website surely, especially if you have time to come on here. It's hard but don't give up giving up.
