UCAS/German qualifications

Aloha everybody,

got a few questions on UCAS apps.

My reference was written by my physics teacher in GERMAN, so I had it translated professionally. But what would be the best way to add that information to the application? Should I add a phrase like "This is a courtesy translation from the German language" at the bottom? Because if they want to interview my referee, they'll be (or he'll be) having problems!

I've got a qualification which is called "Mittlere Reife" in Germany and is generally awarded (without examination) after grade ten (fifth year). But I can't enter it into the qualifications section, as I cannot give the necessary information such as awarding body, result etc.

Is it alright if I leave the section blank?

Thx for your help,
David

I had the same problem  Enter Mittlere Reife by going to Other. That should work. NOT Other International tho !!!

And about the reference, I would put a line at the bottom, saying where you had it translated. Although they hardly ever interview referees.

I have tried that, but unfortunately it wants me to enter results and the awarding body.
Reply 3
Nope, you're doing something wrong then. It should just say Other somewhere and then you enter the title "Mittlere Reife". Awarding body should be the school you did it at. And then you enter your Durchschnitt and subjects and grades.

I emailed them and asked when I didn't know how to do it and here's what I got. You should definitely enter it as it says here, even the -----.
Good luck.

Thank you!
What relevance does it have for the application?

I never put down anything about Mittlere Reife.
I don't think they care.
I needed GCSE Math, English and Science garde C though, so I made it clear in my statement that I have equivialents and that was it.
Just put down your Abitur grades?

EDIT: My friends also didn't put their MR grades on the form.
Reply 7
I don't know, I did put it. It can't hurt and it looks better than just having one qualification  I'd go for it !!!

Hehe... but then again, I did already have 3 qualifications o_O without the silly MR.
I had to go through NARIC though and they evaluated all my work from university, then just sent a letter back saying that I can put down that I have a Certificate of Higher Education (BA) in Special Education Needs and Rehabilitation and a Diploma of HE (BA) in Primary Education and English and Math and German and Textile Arts. It looked like they didn't really think about it much and just charged me for it anyway. In the end I said my DipHE was in Primary Ed with specialism English (and Math, TA and German as minors). The university was impressed.

Oh... I am saying random stuff. I think I have a fever :/

Awww

Yeah, anyway, you were more qualified than us then anyway  I'd still put it down
Yeah, go for it !

Except for Mittlere Reife, I don't think there are any other school qualifications I could have achieved in school before the Abitur.

Anyway, I'll give it a try with the MR.

Use the "Other" section and add it manually.
I had to do that with the School Certificate ( Our version of the GCSE O Levels )

Did u guys add your specific four Abitur grades (2 LK,2 GK) and/or the overall grades like in the report card? i only just ask as i messed up my Political Science Abitur examination which was btw my 1st LK( only 8 pts - but i am an 11 pts average student) ....so i'd be better off by adding my overall grade for this subject...
and how do you rate the chances for a german student to get into OxBridge?
....looking at the UoL entry requirement, i wonder if they have any idea how they rate in Germany...i mean getting an overall 1,5 Abitur isn't a piece of cakeand not as easy as getting an AAA in England....i have an 1,9...and i worked my ass off and even messed up one course and i only know two peeps who can top 1,5...that's just ridiculous...

But anyways...see y'all next year in London

I'm currently in year 12 and I included all completed modules in my UCAS form (not only the two examined GKs). So I've 20 single grades, plus the predictions for the overall score in the Abitur and the individual examined subjects (2LK's and 2GK's).
Ask the uni/ UCAS what they prefer, but I'm afraid that you would have at least to include your LK-examination grade and it would look better if they see that you just underperformed. So I'd give them the average and the results of the P-subjects from year 12 and 13. And 8 points in the Abitur were last year the best result in the Politics course at my school...

I asked Oxford which grades they expect normally from German applicants to PPE and they wrote: "We are looking for very high marks: 1.4 or 1.5 or better."
Obtaining this average is generally really difficult, but in addition to that it varies from school to school what makes it a bit complicate to assess these marks. At our school e.g. there were last year only 3 peeps who got 1.3 and 1.5, but I know that there are schools where 20% of each year group get 1.5 and better without doing remarklelby better.
There it is quite common that you get 15 out of 15 points (=very good+), wheras at our school the teachers seem to believe that the spectrum of grades ends with 13 points (very good-).
Talking of which...my friend went to a Gesamtschule and was a very (!!!) bad student at Gymnasium. She got a 1.5 which she never ever expected.
At my school, only a handful of people achieved 1.5 and better. Most of them from my class (bilingual option). I don't even wanna think about how hard I had to work for a stupid 1.4 considering!

do i have to enter my year-12-grades under the "qualifications"-section or in the "predicted-marks"-section?

How many modules do I have to enter from my MR?
Reply 17
You have to enter every subject as it appears on your Zeugnis. Enter your Abitur grades as predicted grades and year twelve as qualifications.
Reply 18
How many subjects have to be entered into the "predicted grades"-section? So far, I only put in the 4 examination subjects which include physics, political science, maths and english. Is that enough?
Reply 19
Yeah, i think that's enough.
