Tesco Psychometric Test

Hey all,

im sure you're all getting annoyed with so many posts about tesco, although admittedly this is the first 1 from me, but anyway.
Ive applied at tesco before, but from what i know etc, they screen ur application via machine and check ur answers of the psychometric test (the 1 with strongly agree and strongly disagree questions), anyway ive applied before and got rejected, i suspect because of that stupid test.
Im a bright guy, with good GCSE results and could do a damn good job if given the chance, but the problem is i dont want to fail that test again. Any chance anyone got any advice with it pls?

Thanks

Don't be honest, just say what they want to hear! Think outside the box, y'know.

A psychometric test is there to see how well suited your personality is to the job - you don't pass or fail. If you try to fake it to what you think they want you will probably fail because it's damn hard to trick those things. Be honest, if you're right for the job you'll get it, if not then you probably wouldn't have enjoyed it anyway.

And I know this because my sister is a HR manager and administers these tests and has given them to my family to practice doing them. We've also tried tricking them, and it doesn't work.

I used to 'mark' those tests (they're not done by machine, a transparent sheet is placed over the answers) - there's no in depth psychological analysis either, they're just looking for certain answers for certain questions.

Bloody load of rubbish if you ask me. The interview is the only stage where they can successfully assess the suitability of the applicant.

this is exactly what i mean, surely its up to ME whether ill enjoy the job or not? not some stupid test.
I know that im capable of doing the job and will work damn hard at it, but because of this stupid screening test, they dont even giv u a chance to prove it

maybe ill send a 6th form report or something in along with my application...

There's a psychometric test to get a job in TESCOS????

Certainly it seems very thorough for a job at Tescos, but hey...if they want just the right person for packing shelves and scanning items who are we to argue?

Jeebus, its only Tescos. The odds are you WILL get the job.

And faking it does work, cos thats what I did and now I happily spend my Saturdays (and Monday and Friday evenings) bleeping things. Ah what japes.

well last time i got rejected :frown: it hurts, 9A* and 2A and it cant even get you into tesco lol

Reply 10

9A* and 2as eh? they probably think you have no social skills or something!

Reply 11

yup

always tell them what they want to hear and you can't go wrong

and try and have something on your form that makes you stand out. and first impressions count

Reply 12

yeh thats why i was considering sending like a previous report or gcse results form or something, cuz nowhere on the application does it have newhere for you to put any qualifications or skills anywhere

lol, the thing is supermarkets don't care about results. if the supermarket is hiring, then as long as you're entusiastic at the interview you'll get the job. if they're not, and you just asked for an application form and sent it in, then don't expect to hear anything back.

Reply 14

mm fair point so ur saying i shud giv in the application form and do some hussling? so to speak :P

Reply 15

i failed that bloody test as well!!

Reply 16

one piece of advice, they dont care about the "i want to make profits for tesco" answers, thats a managers job, not yours. So never pick that one.

Reply 17

yeh cheers, i didnt

when i filled it in, i just ticked the answers that i thought i agreed with and the 1s i thought they might be looking for in the job i wanna do ie checkouts/shelf stacking.
So like ur 1 i didnt do anything bout profits neither did i do team leading; i said work well in a team etc, bt theres no point me ticking 1s associated with team leaders as i aint gonna be a team leader

anyway application sent on monday nite, we'll see

I photocopied my GCSE results document and latest 6th form report and stapled it to it, just so that can maybe get an idea even if i fuk up the personality test. On the other hand they might look at it n this "this guy thinks hes a smart ass" and bin the application anyway.

I just didnt like the idea of only being a name to them, maybe its just me

Just use a bit of common sense when filling it in. Don't make out Tesco's will be your life because they know it won't be. Having said that don't say you'll laugh at old women or anything such like. That's all there is to it.

Just goes to show how pointless GCSE's actually are. Supermarkets don't care about results; (admittedly I got 8A* but that's not the point) they want to see how well you could deal with the general public and how competent, friendly and enthusiastic you are. As long as you have some sort of personality you should get the job. It worked for me at waitrose.
