The craters on the Moon are caused by asteroids and comets colliding with it.

The craters are caused by pieces of matter in space, of varying sizes, colliding with the moon.
    Energy transfers:
-the kinetic energy of the matter is transfered to the moon during the collision.
    -heat may be generated.
