I sent a few messages back and forth with my girlfriend over the last few weeks, and on hotmail it links these together as a conversation. So i'll see her name, my name, her name, my name etc.
Well the other day I logged in and had an email which was "re: title of my email to my girlfriend" but said in the sender column ricardo brito, girlfriend, me, girlfriend, me ...
The email was from a random hotmail address with the sender name ricardo brito and addressed to another hotmail address which was not mine or my girlfriend's. She had none of this appear in her inbox. The message said stuff like "I have just come across your photos and you are really hot, my msn is ....." etc so obviously junk, but how did this happen??
Is this dangerous to my account at all? I blocked both email addresses and deleted the emails.

I don't use hotmail, but that does sound strange.
As long as you didn't follow the link etc. you should be fine. But run something like malwarebytes antispyware and avast anti virus just to double check

Ha. I had that very same message on my hotmail a couple of days ago (of course, with different name). Just ignore it.
