1. Ok, now as a result of having been up till 8am for the last 5 days (damn cricket), I am currently being a complete bloody retard and am stuck on a stupidly simple bit of a difficult question.

Basically I finished this question and got to the first step shown in the image below, but my mind has just shut down and I can't see how to get from the first to the second step.

2. Multiply the two fractions in the brackets by another fraction so that you have the same common denominator, so that you can take away the numerators. If you multiply the first fraction by (s+a)/(s+a) and the second fraction by (s-a)/(s-a) then it will work.
