Fewer places availiable means the Unis need to become more picky

That's brilliant for me. It looks as if I got in just before things got really bad.

      Spoiler:
      Show
Though I do have a younger brother, so I'm tempted to feel sorry for him.

Does that not happen every other year? Or they just make it tougher.

They go up every year! You'll be surprised the grades people needed to get into the top unis only a couple years ago...

On what do you base this ludicrous claim?

The Browne review is predicated on a 10% increase in places!

Not a ludicrous claim, was stated on bbc news around the time of my graduation. Budget cuts had prevented them increasing the claims, and I've heard nothing different since.

      There is your basis :P

They went up this year too... nothing new really - I wouldn't be surprised if they went up another time again in the next few years with all the cuts etc. Its really annoying though, I know some people who had to completely change their options due to courses pushing the grades up which made going to open days useless. What really pisses me off is when universities put the grades up after people have applied. Seems pretty harsh.

      Don't A grades start at 80%?
I wish I had to worry about getting 80% three times, rather than getting 90% in 24 modules, 94% in another 12 modules plus another five 5-hour long final examinations, which also have to be 3*94% and 2*90%.
How I envy you British students for your offers.
