When do points on your licence expire? Watch

I've got three points on my driving licence - red light ticket.

I am trying to work out when I will have a 'clean' licence, but I am confused as to when the points expire. I understood that they were valid for three years, but it seems they stay on my licence for four years? So if I have something I need a clean licence for, will I be ok after three years or not?

    Thanks

The points can be removed from your licence after four years, but they count for banning purposes for three. You really don't want to acquire 12 points within any three year period.

Oh, and if you passed your test within the last two years, you can't afford to get another 3 point endorsement at all.

Thanks - I passed more than two years ago, I'm not worried about it from that pov, have no intention of getting any more!!

It was because I can't drive the SU minibus unless I have a clean licence, was trying to work out if that 'clean' licence would be at 3 years or 4.
