Hi, I'm 17 and recently had a brace put on and also have a removable bite plate to fix my overbite. This bite plate is extremely uncomfortable; it pushes against my front teeth and if i even tap it lightly with my bottom teeth it hurts a lot (can feel the teeth being rammed forward). I have been told I have to wear it all the time apart from when eating, but was wondering, if it is only used to keep my jaw open slightly to fix my overbite, couldn't I just keep my jaw open slightly by myself, then just have it in at night to stop me closing my jaw completely?

    Appreciate any replies.

If youve been advised to wear it all the time, then you really should, regardless of how uncomfortable it is. I know its not nice but there is a reason why your dentist gave it to you.

I understand that it's probably uncomfortable now, but if you've been advised to keep it in at all times - you really should try to do exactly that. However, if it doesn't improve within a certain period of time and you're still in a lot of pain, I'd advise you to go back to your dentist to see if he / she has any suggestions for soothing the pain.
