Should you not have bought Office 2011 (which is the most recent one for Mac)?

If you bought a windows version of Office that won't work unless you've bought and installed windows as well (via bootcamp / virtual machine)
Software for MacOS and Windows are not compatible with each other. The only way to use Windows software on a Mac is to also install windows somehow either through Bootcamp (dual boot) or a virtual machine (VMWare Fusion, Parallels, Virtual Box)

Sounds like you're buying/downloading Windows versions of products, which are incompatible with Mac OSX. Windows file extensions are .exe and .msi. OSX uses .app and .dmg.
Either install Windows via the Boot Camp utility or get Mac equivalents (such as Microsoft Office Mac 2011).

Office 2010 is the Windows version, the Mac equivalent is Office 2011.
